Position Overview
The Marketing team at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston (MFAH) is looking for a curious bright and positive student to join the team for a summer experience within one of the largest art museums in the country. This team helps shape the Museums public image and creates brand messaging that ultimately drives attendance and revenue. This position will be part of an always-on marketing team that is collaborative inventive and detail-oriented.
Working in the rich environment of the MFAH means constantly being involved in exhibitions events and behind-the-scenes order to be fully involved some weekend and evening work would be expected. Therefore the ideal Intern will need to be flexible on many levels.
Immersive Experience
This position is designed to immerse the student in every facet of marketing for the MFAH. Each of the 11 members of the team will share their areas of expertise in one-on-one sessions with the Intern. The team meets twice a week for round table updates and to create the overall production schedule that guides efforts.
No two weeks are the same and at any given time one member of the team might require more assistance than another. For the summer intern day-to-day responsibilities could include assisting with the following:
- Creation of social media content for platforms including Instagram Facebook and TikTok
- This could include covering events at the main campus or at the two house museums Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens or Rienzi
- This could include interacting with influencers who have contracted with the Museum
- Escorting photographers for shoots inside the Museum
- On-site video production
- Creation of exhibition campaign plans
- This could include research regarding advertising vendors
- It could include groundwork to capture advertising efforts
- Writing content for the website
- Writing content for the Museums branded emails
- Updating digital signage across the Museum using design software
- Working with graphic design on event materials
- Representing the team in various meetings
The Intern will be assigned to a fall or winter exhibition and will assist with developing a full campaign including creation of a target audience recommending a paid advertising campaign choosing images and steering graphic design as well as working on promotional events or social media possibilities.

- Tech-savvy with ease in using various platforms and software
- High EQ skills with the ability to collaborate with colleagues and leadership
- Passion for art is a strong plus
Education and Experience
- Current undergraduate student pursuing a degree in marketing communications art history or museum studies is preferred.
- Prior related experience is a plus but not required.
Anticipated Schedule:
The internship will comprise 350 hours of work (35 hours per week for 10 weeks) running from June 1 through August 7 2026. Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (with an hour-long lunch).
Compensation:
This is a paid internship at $15 per hour.
