    SALARY AND BENEFITS

    Salary:$52361 - $92683 annually commensurate with experience and qualifications

    ROLE AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES

    The Consultant for Special Education Compliance and Technical Assistance serves in a consultive/supportive role with staff students parents and representatives from local districts and community agencies. Responsible for coordination development and coaching within assigned areas.

    Essential Duties (May include but not limited to):

    1. Participates as part of the General Supervision and Monitoring (GSM) team to support special education compliance and the delivery of services and specially designed instruction to students in the least restrictive environment.
    2. Provides consultation to districts demonstrating noncompliance regarding policies practices and procedures for special education.
    3. Provides professional development activities to school district personnel.
    4. Serves on the GISD MTSS team and supports district teams in system development to implement Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS)
    5. Guides LEA problem solving and implementation planning through a data based decision making process designed to use capacity fidelity and student outcome data.
    6. Prepares reports to facilitate document or evaluate programs and assigned duties.
    7. Consults counsels and collaborates with parents school personnel students and appropriate community agencies regarding educational concerns.
    8. Assist teachers in planning sequencing and scaffolding of instruction.
    9. Models techniques for effective delivery of instruction in classrooms.
    10. Assists in staff development activities related to assigned duties.
    11. Remains up to date on current methodologies and strategies for instructional programs for students with disabilities.
    12. Consistently models Win-Win leadership.

    Other Duties:

    1. May serve as a resource for the development of department budget and district plan goals related to the assigned area.
    2. May serve as a resource person to local school district school improvement teams related to the assigned area of responsibility.
    3. Represents the district on various community agencies and professional organizations as appropriate to the assigned area.
    4. Performs other related duties in the department as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Education:

    Masters degree required; valid Michigan teacher certificate with an endorsement in one or more areas of special education licensed special education teacher meeting requirements for teacher consultant approval is required.

    Experience:

    Minimum of three years of satisfactory experience working with students with disabilities in a school setting is required.

    Skills/Other:

    Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in written and oral communication with administrators staff parents/guardians and community agencies. Demonstrated enthusiasm and a positive attitude. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students peers parents school personnel and community to read analyze and interpret general business periodicals professional journals technical procedures and government regulations. Knowledgeable about educational organizations educational law and the areas of educational assessment and to utilize district technology and work to maintain proficiency as required skill sets change with technology and the needs of the district. Experience with collecting literacy data. Demonstrated mental/physical ability and stamina for meeting the requirements of the position. Works successfully as a member of the team. Has the ability to utilize meeting outcomes to effectively run meetings action plan and follow through utilizing a coaching model. Demonstrate honesty integrity and professionalism at all times. Ability to travel to and from GISD constituent school districts students homes and other agencies. Ability to work a flexible schedule. Punctuality and good attendance are requirements for the position. Exercise good judgment and make decisions in accordance with board policies and established administrative guidelines.
