Position:Business Office Supervisor - Health Services - Manistee

Hiring Range: $41839.63 - $55483.01 - $66581.26 Commensurate with Verified Qualifications.
Summary: Under the direction of the Health Services Director and in collaboration with the medical team this position is responsible for overseeing the business office staff and the revenue cycle within LRBOIs two Tribal health clinics. The Business Office Supervisor will be responsible for developing and implementing a revenue generation system to ensure services are accurate and promptly reimbursed. The Business Office Supervisor will provide leadership to improve efficiency reduce claim holds and support medical providers in their administrative functions.
Employment Qualifications:
- Associates degree in business or healthcare administration/management; and
- Five (5) or more years of revenue cycle management experience in a clinic or family practice with some supervisory level experience; and
- Working knowledge of sensitivity communication practices and interview techniques in order to speak with and for the patient; and.
- Technical skills of an intermediate to proficient user of MS Office software computers and office equipment; and
- Strong background experience with medical terminology medical coding/billing and credentialling with third party payors; and
- Excellent time management skills strong skills in planning and prioritizing/organizing work in a sometimes fast-paced clinic environment.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensure confidentiality of protected health information and maintain HIPAA standards when communicating with insurance companies patients and/or their representatives both verbally and / or in writing.
- Supervise projects / tasks related to the financial goals and overall objectives as assigned.
- Support health department planning by providing timely operational information and analysis.
- Develop update and maintain health services fee schedules.
- Develop update and implement policies and procedures for the business office with emphasis on efficient processes compliance and accountability.
- Ensure chart and encounter coding completion for efficient and timely billing.
- Ensure completion of direct charge posting billing and develop and implement account receivable posting processes.
- Resolve complex billing software clearinghouse and payer issues utilizing appropriate judgement and professionalism.
- Assist with month-end and annual closing activities.
- Manage credential processes by ensuring appropriate payer credentialing and re-credentialing for practice providers are complete to secure accurate payment for services. Communicate with practice providers to obtain and clarify additional supportive document requested by the payer.
- Ensure that billing and coding audits are completed on a regular basis and findings are provided to the Health Services Director and reviewed with providers.
- Assist in quality improvement activities as assigned.
- Positively represent the health department while interacting with payers patients providers colleagues Federal and State agencies and other related partners.
- Remain up to date and knowledgeable of Tribal State and Federal legislative changes impacting the business office.
- All other position/department related duties as assigned by the Health Services Director.

During the course of employment the employee will consistently utilize and demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills strong organizational skills strong interpersonal and teamwork skills a heightened attention to detail and accuracy the ability to work cooperatively with other departments and a commitment to confidentiality. Knowledge of and the ability to maintain strict confidentiality of medical and administrative records adhering to the standards for health record keeping under HIPAA and Privacy Act requirements.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Direct supervision of billing and coding staff; responsible for interviewing hiring training rewarding and discipling of subordinates in addition to planning assigning and directing work; encourages on-going development of staff.
Physical Demands
Sitting for long periods of time frequent walking and occasional reaching bending kneeling or stretching is to be expected. The nature of the work also involves manual dexterity to operate office equipment and while keyboarding. An employee will need normal or corrected to normal range of sight and hearing and will carry work-related materials up to twenty-five (25) pounds.
Working Environment
Work is performed in a climate-controlled office environment. The employees work schedule may periodically need to be flexible and adjusted according to business need. The employee must be able to effectively handle stressful and compromising situations while remaining focused and professional as well as be able to deal with difficult people without losing perspective. Occasional overnight or local travel will be necessary to attend meetings or trainings.
