The Role
This local government authority services a diverse metropolitan community and is committed to delivering high-quality professional services to residents businesses and stakeholders. With a strong focus on governance compliance and community outcomes the organisation offers a supportive and values-driven working environment. Reporting to the Coordinator of Revenue the Finance Officer (Rates) will support the effective administration and management of the organisations rating and property database. This role plays a key part in ensuring accurate billing compliance with statutory obligations and the timely collection of rates and charges.
Maintain and update the property database including ownership changes valuations land use and service charges.
Process rate transactions including annual and interim rates direct debits interest and associated charges.
Assist with the management and enforcement of outstanding rates pensioner rebates and non-rateable property registers.
Provide accurate advice and assistance to ratepayers and internal stakeholders on rating and property-related matters.
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and best practice.
The Candidate
You will be a highly organised and detail-oriented finance professional with sound knowledge of rating processes and relevant legislation within a local government environment. You will be comfortable managing competing priorities while maintaining a strong customer service focus.
Key requirements include:
Completion or near completion of a relevant qualification (e.g. Diploma of Accounting Certificate IV in Business (Administration)) or equivalent experience in a similar role ideally within local government.
Experience using financial systems (TechnologyOne or Civica Authority highly regarded) and Microsoft Office.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
A current National Police Clearance (or willingness to obtain one).
