Job Summary

Gardner-Webb University seeks a qualified broadly trained individual to fill this tenure-track faculty position in the area of criminal justice and homeland security at the Assistant Professor level within the Department of Public Service (DPS) at the main campus in Boiling Springs NC to begin Fall 2026. Teaching responsibilities will include both introductory and advanced courses in the Criminal Justice and/or Homeland Security Bachelor of Science degree programs with the potential to teach in the graduate program for Public Administration depending on qualifications. Faculty members will be required to teach on campus although they may teach some courses online.

Essential Requirements:

  • The candidate must hold a terminal degree in Criminal Justice or Homeland Security.
  • The candidate should have a deep commitment to diversity and inclusiondemonstratedthrough pedagogy research and/or public engagement.
  • The candidate must conduct present and publish research in the discipline.
  • The candidate should have undergraduate teaching and mentoring experience with a record of instructional effectiveness.
  • The candidate must have excellent interpersonal written and verbal communication skills.
  • The candidate must presenta trackrecordthatdemonstratesexceptional organization communication collaboration and interpersonal relations and the ability to manage undergraduate programs effectively.
  • The candidate must have a demonstrated commitment to Christian Higher Education.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • The candidate possesses past and/or present work experience in the discipline field.
  • The candidate demonstrates academic or professional experience in public administration public management public leadership or organizational leadership or a related discipline.
  • The candidate must have a demonstrated commitment to community outreach and engagement as is expected of faculty at GWU.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach at the undergraduate-level including introductory courses and advanced courses in Criminal Justice and/or Homeland Security.
  • Provide guidance advising and mentorship to undergraduates in programs housed in the Department.
  • Attend monthly Department of Public Service meetings and monthly GWU faculty meetings.
  • Support the department in required documentation assessment and development of best practices.
  • Participate in faculty committees and the business of the university as required.
  • Participate in the recruitment of students through university-sponsored events.
  • Develop an independent research program and publish within their discipline.
  • Travel to attend conferences and meetings.
  • Assist the Department Chair and other Program Coordinators/Directors as needed.
