Description

Brophy College Preparatory seeks a mission-driven visionary educator to serve as the Director of Innovative Technologies. This administrative role leads the Innovation Commonsan 11500 square-foot creative and technological hub that embodies Brophys commitment to fostering a mindset of innovation ingenuity and entrepreneurship. The Director will oversee develop and teach in both curricular and co-curricular programs that empower students to become ethical innovators who use technology to serve the common good.

About the Innovation Commons

The Innovation Commons is an ever-evolving 21st-century makerspace and collaborative design lab. It is home to cutting-edge equipment including multiple commercial-grade and hobby 3D printers laser plasma and waterjet cutters CNC routers robotics tools flight simulators and high-performance computing labs. As a pedagogical space it is grounded in Jesuit values especially the call to educate students for lives of leadership and service while emphasizing collaboration iterative design and real-world problem-solving.

The Director will oversee a robust and growing portfolio of curricular and extracurricular offerings including:

Courses: Makerspace Essentials Computer Coding 3D Industrial Arts Introduction to Robotics Advanced Robotics Advanced Concepts in Design & Technology Honors Engineering (dual enrollment)

Programs: Robotics CubeSat Rocketry Model RC and Flight Simulation

Position Description

Leadership and Oversight

Direct daily operations of the Innovation Commons including equipment maintenance supply inventory and purchasing lab management and space logistics.

Partner with the Assistant Principal for Instruction and Innovation and the Art and Innovation Department Chair to uphold and model Brophys innovative mindset through courses and extracurricular offerings

Foster a growth mindset culture of exploration risk-taking and ethical reflection.

Collaborate with faculty and staff across departments to integrate innovative technology and practices schoolwide.

Maintain safety standards protocols and training in all lab environments.

The Innovation Commons is bustling with activity in between and after the school bells. The right candidate will be able to maintain an accessible environment aside from the regularly scheduled courses.

Stay abreast of emerging technology and add it to the IC when applicable.

Program Development

Evolve and adapt course offerings in innovative technologies STEAM and applied design thinking.

Support independent honors-level student projects and capstone work that emphasizes technology for the common good.

Inspire faculty and students to explore innovative tools ideas and pedagogical practices.

Lead professional development for faculty on emerging technologies project-based learning and AI in education.

Teaching

Teach 4-5 sections per semester within the Innovation Commons course sequence (e.g. Essentials Intro to Robotics Honors Engineering or Coding).

Design and support project-based learning that emphasizes multiple iterations public presentations and interdisciplinary connections.

Partnerships and Community Engagement

Develop partnerships with local universities industry professionals and non-profit organizations to support student learning and project development.

Represent Brophys Innovation Commons at community events and conferences.

Qualifications

Preferred candidates will have:

A bachelors degree and professional background in engineering computer science design robotics or a related field. A masters degree in a related field is required for teaching Honors Engineering.

Experience teaching or leading STEAM-related programs. Experience with Robotics programs is desirable in particular First Robotics.

Knowledge of design software (such as OnShape Solidworks Fusion360 or other advanced design/CAD applications). Experience with 3D printing as well as wood and/or metal fabrication is desirable.

A demonstrated ability to lead interdisciplinary teams and projects.

Strong communication collaboration and mentorship skills.

A passion for helping students become creative problem-solvers and ethical leaders.
