Purpose of the Internship
The Communications team plays a central role in amplifying Aflatouns mission impact and partnerships globally. We are currently strengthening our brand visibility and developing clearer more efficient communications processes and content across multiple channels.

The Communications Intern will support the team in creating engaging content contributing to communications campaigns monitoring performance and supporting fundraising communications in collaboration with the Resource Mobilization department.

Key Responsibilities
The Communications Intern will:

  • Support the Communications team in implementing global communications activities and campaigns
  • Create engaging written and visual content for social media website newsletters and other communication channels
  • Assist with content planning scheduling and publishing across digital platforms
  • Monitor analyse and report on monthly communications and social media metrics
  • Conduct research to identify content trends storytelling opportunities and best practices
  • Support the design and production of promotional materials publications and presentations
  • Provide communications support including fundraising-related content
  • Assist with ad hoc communications tasks as needed

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Communications International Relations Education or a related field and/or relevant experience
  • Strong interest in communications storytelling and digital media
  • Knowledge of social media platforms analytics tools WordPress and Canva
  • Excellent command of English both written and spoken; additional languages are an asset
  • Organised detail-oriented and comfortable working independently and collaboratively
  • Ability to work effectively with colleagues from diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop InDesign Premiere Pro) is an asset
  • Basic web development skills are considered a plus
  • The intern must have the right to reside in the Netherlands

Working Conditions & Supervision

  • Internship duration: 6 months
  • The intern will report to the Communications Manager
  • The role is based in the Netherlands (hybrid)

Safeguarding & Ethics

Due to the nature of Aflatouns work with children and young people all staff interns and consultants are required to adhere to Aflatouns Child Protection Policy and Policy on Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA). Aflatoun applies a zero-tolerance policy towards sexual exploitation and abuse. Selected candidates will be required to sign these policies. An additional written test may form part of the recruitment process.
