Job Title:Allied Health Advisor
Department:Division of Allied Health
Reports to:Dean of Allied Health
Appointment:Full Time in Brown County
Position Summary:Provides comprehensive academic advising services to prospective newly admitted
transfer and continuing Allied Health students. The position also entails some Allied Health recruiting
responsibilities.
Major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
1. Furnishes information about Ranger College and Allied Health programs to prospective students and visitors.
2. Works directly with Allied Health prospective students to answer questions and support their completion of the pre-admission application process.
3. Refers and connects Allied Health prospective and current students to services such as financial aid and counseling.
4. Enrolls eligible Allied Health students in program specific courses.
5. Assists Allied Health students with information about account holds to facilitate course enrollment.
6. Serves as a liaison with the registrar to determine transferability of pre-requisites and co-requisite credits for Allied Health prospective and current students.
7. Maintains Allied Health student program files according to Texas Board of Nursing and Department of State Health Services guidelines as applicable.
8. Administers pre-entrance exams for the Nursing Programs; supports Brown County office staff with proctoring various exams as needed.
9. Collaborates with the Dean and Program Coordinators to schedule plan and deliver Division of Allied Health new student orientation sessions.
10. Participates in Allied Health specific recruitment events as assigned that may include but are not limited to invited career fairs speaking engagements.
11. Collaborates with Dean and Program Coordinators to schedule plan and deliver Division of Allied Health program information sessions for prospective students.
12. Serves on committees and attends meetings as assigned. Meetings include but are not limited to: college committee meetings departmental committee meetings division program and advisory meetings.
13. Assists with Brown County student service activities and success initiatives. This includes but is not limited to: assisting with student activities such as holiday events celebrations and special events distribution of scholarship information.
14. Actively participates in professional development related to the advising role.
15. Maintains up to date knowledge about the Allied Health degrees and program requirements.
16. Accurately maintains Allied Health prospective and current student lists.
15. Assists with other activities surrounding Allied Health admissions such as student interviews.
17. Collaborates with the Dean of Allied Health and program coordinators to recommend updates to Allied Health admission information on the website and in the Ranger College Academic Catalog.
18. Ensures all activities are conducted in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
19. Performs additional duties as assigned by the Dean of Allied Health to support the Division of Allied Health program outcomes.
Qualifications:
Bachelors degree and two years related work experience. A degree in a healthcare related field or academic advising is preferred.
Able to show commitment to the Ranger College mission core values and vision statement.
Able to communicate verbally and in writing with professionalism kindness respect and civility to the public students faculty staff and administrators.
Able to be cooperative flexible and positive in a team environment that is often fast-paced. Able to work independently while completing assignments and organizing multiple projects with accuracy precision and timeliness.
Able to keep student records and information confidential and secure in accordance with applicable privacy law.
Able to proficiently operate various software programs including but not limited to: Microsoft Office and Google Workspace; various video meeting applications; and college software to access student records.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift files objects boxes or books up to 25 pounds.
Must be able to sit at a desk and work on a computer for prolonged periods of time.
Other:
Must be able to consistently attend assigned working hours according to the Ranger College hours of operation and within the Ranger College policies for time and attendance. This includes hours at the assigned campus and required events at other Ranger College locations. Lunch and breaks during hours of operation must be taken within departmental expectations for consistent office and advising coverage. Some travel may be required for recruiting events professional development and to support the Allied Health programs in Erath County.
ANNUAL SALARY/BENEFITS: Highly competitive and commensurate with experience and credentials. Group health and life insurance (60 day waiting period for health) and retirement benefits (TRS or ORP). Optional benefits include disability vision and dental insurance.
