The Team
The Air Quality Assessments and Stewardship Unit is an established team of scientists with diverse backgrounds in atmospheric science physics chemistry engineering and health sciences. Youll be joining a collaborative group of about nine professionals including Air Quality Meteorologists senior specialists and a unit head who regularly work alongside Air Quality Technologists Environmental Protection Officers analysts biologists and community partners. This team plays a key role in protecting and managing air quality across the province and is known for being supportive innovative and deeply committed to creating an inclusive environment where different perspectives strengthen the work they do.

The Role
You will provide expert advice on how industrial and community activities affect air quality support local stewardship initiatives validate air quality data and help keep the public informed when air quality declines. Your work directly supports the health and wellbeing of people across B.C. making a meaningful impact every day. Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • PhD in a related discipline (e.g.: atmospheric science mathematics chemistry physicsengineering epidemiology) AND one (1) year directly related experience in air quality management OR
  • Masters of Science in a related discipline AND one (1) year directly related experience in air quality management OR
  • Bachelor of Science in a related discipline AND three (3) years directly related experience which includes three (3) years experience in air quality management OR
  • Technical Diploma in a related discipline AND five (5) years directly related experience which includes three (3) years experience in air quality management
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

Related experience includes all of the following areas:

  • Conducting air quality impact assessment (interpreting and assessing how ambient air quality is affected by existing and/or proposed industrial emission sources)
  • Writing technical reports and memos
  • Data analysis and programming using R Python or other languages

Preference may be given to candidates with experience in the following areas:

  • Conducting airshed planning and developing air quality management plans
  • Conducting air quality dispersion modelling
  • Preparing comprehensive reports articles and scientific papers for publication or a balanced combination
  • Weather analysis and forecasting
  • Conducting interviews with the media for radio television and/or online broadcasting
  • Public speaking and communication

Provisos /Willingness statement(s)

  • Must be able to meet the transportation needs of the position i.e. maintain a BC Class 5 Drivers License
  • Willingness to travel
  • Willingness to work in adverse weather conditions
  • Willingness to work evenings weekends and holidays when required
  • Must be physically able to conduct field work
  • This position requires you to have a valid FULL BC drivers licence (minimum class 5) or an equivalent class drivers licence from another province or jurisdiction.
