The Opportunity
The Alberta Motor Association (AMA) is on the lookout for a passionate resourceful individual who is a great communicator negotiator and facilitator. You will be a part of the agile delivery team responsible for facilitating discovery and translating business needs into structured product specifications defining system behavior workflows data contracts and edge cases to enable spec-driven delivery in a timely manner using the AMA Agile Framework and tools.

How Youll Make an Impact

  • Report to the Team Lead Product Owners.
  • Play a key role in advancing our association strategy by applying your UX product and technical expertise to analyze member insights synthesize feedback and inform the direction of our product roadmap.
  • Develop deep partnerships with business stakeholders to understand strategic and operational needs translating them into structured product specifications and solution designs that guide delivery and enable measurable outcomes.
  • Youll own creation prioritization and nurturing of our product development backlog.
  • Your mission is to translate business needs into enchanting product stories. Expect lots of design discussions user personas and journey mapping and some tech wizardry!
  • Youll work closely with our design team to ensure your required artifacts become the masterpieces they deserve to be.
  • Bridge business and engineering through executable specifications delivery alignment and proactive blocker resolution.
  • Collaborate with multiple third party software providers on system enhancements and releases to support value growth and increased operational efficiencies.
  • Be the expert on the functionality third party systems provide and how the software can be further leveraged for the value and benefit of your business unit.
  • Manage AMA team support tickets with third party vendors ensuring timely resolution for issues.
  • Plan and prioritize stories for an application team to implement in their sprint cycle; including configuration and customization work on systems.
  • Participate in daily standup meetings to resolve issues addresses changes and get updates on progress.
  • Work with agile team members to ensure the sprint produces a functional package to leadership and key stakeholders.
  • Communicate with other agile team members to resolve any issues before escalating.
  • Decompose business strategies into detailed product specifications including functional flows business rules and system interactions enabling engineering teams to implement with minimal ambiguity.
  • Provide and analyze data to make informed decisions mitigate risks or take other a problem/opportunity from both a business and consumer perspective to determine the best resolution approach.
  • Gather business/user requirements to support the functional or business solution by leading cross-functional specification workshops to co-create solution designs aligning business architecture engineering and QA on expected system outcomes.

What You Bring to the Table

  • Youve got at least 3-5 years of Product Owner or Product Management experience.
  • Were also looking for someone with experience working with interdepartmental teams and projects.
  • Ability to define complex business rules and decision logic
  • Familiarity with spec-driven or behavior-driven development practices
  • Previous experience with payments/accounting systems and/or an analytical mindset is an asset.
  • You can demonstrate an ability to work across silos and move work priorities forward to completion.
  • Your experience demonstrates skills in execution collaboration continuous learning and systems thinking.
  • You may have experience as a systems analyst business analyst or a similar business role. This role is open to people from a variety of backgrounds.
  • Agile & Scrum knowledge is considered an asset.
  • Relevant post-secondary training is considered an asset.
  • Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) or Advanced Certified Scrum Product Owner (A-CSPO) certifications would be an asset.
