POSITION TITLE: Director Facilities Services

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Facilities Services Director oversees all aspects of running the Scripps Research and Calibr-Skaggs campuses. This senior-level position includes budgeting maintenance purchasing planning and other activities that go into a successful operations unit. Responsible for the safety and security of everyone who uses the facility as well as supporting profitability and growth. These professionals work with all outside vendors and contractors negotiating contracts and ensuring those entities deliver as promised. The Director of Facilities typically manages the facility maintenance staff and other team members who deal with daily operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Operations & Maintenance:Oversee daily building operations preventative maintenance repairs (electrical plumbing HVAC) groundskeeping and custodial services.
  • Budget & Finance: Develop and manage facility budgets control expenditures order supplies and handle capital project planning
  • Safety & Compliance: Ensure adherence to health safety (OSHA ADA) and environmental regulations; establish emergency preparedness plans. Manage on-call and 24/7 operational coverage to respond to building system issues and emergencies. Participate in institutional emergency planning and response efforts to ensure safety and business continuity.
  • Vendor & Contractor Management: Managerelationships with key service providers including maintenance contractors utilities vendors and landscape services. Negotiate service agreements ensure performance standards are met and maintain compliance with institutional and regulatory requirements.
  • Strategic Planning:Develop long-range plans for facility needs support growth and implement efficiency/sustainability initiatives. Track key performance indicators (KPIs) for efficiency.
  • Staff Leadership:Recruit train supervise and develop facilities department staff.
  • Project Management:Lead renovation remodeling and new construction projects coordinating space planning and workplace optimization.
  • Asset Management: Oversee preventive maintenance schedules data collection and asset documentation to ensure reliability and long-term sustainability of facility systems and equipment.
  • Compliance: Ensure operations adhere to applicable safety environmental and regulatory standards. Conduct regular inspections and quality reviews to verify compliance and operational effectiveness.

          REQUIREMENTS:

          • Bachelors degree in Engineering or Facilities Management or Business discipline required or an equivalent combination of education training and experience. Degree in mechanical engineering preferred.
          • 10 years experience in a complex multi-system environment.
          • Project management experience.
          • Budgeting experience with multiple departments.
          • Working knowledge of all major building systems including ancillary equipment and centrifugal and screw chillers boiler operations and familiarity with life safety and emergency power reciprocating engine systems operation required.
          • Minimum four years supervisory or managerial experience.
          • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
          • Demonstrated ability to maintain and/or repair pumps and motors.
          • Knowledge and application of jurisdictional regulations required.
          • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
          • Proficiency with AutoCAD MS Project and BMS and CMMS software.
          • Knowledge of research laboratories and laboratory equipment is preferred.

                      COMPENSATION:

                      The expected hiring range for this position is $180000 to $205000/annually commensurate with experience. Consideration will be given to experience that exceeds the listed requirements.
