The West Sales Tax Manager is responsible for providing leadership and guidance to ensure customers are taxed properly and tax-related invoicing disputes are resolved. Functions of the department include minimizing audit risk through proactive state and local tax management ensuring tax exemptions are properly documented customer tax disputes are resolved and use tax is properly applied.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Team Leadership & Development: Manage team performance set goals and provide coaching and training for dispute resolution and compliance.

  • Tax Compliance & Accuracy: Oversee daily functions for customer/vendor taxability determine tax status manage exemption documentation and support audits and filings (including WA B&O tax).

  • Dispute Resolution Oversight: Research identify root cause and resolve tax disputes within SLAs review transactions to resolve tax issues in the order-to-cash cycle and process tax-only credit invoice requests.

  • Reporting & Process Improvement: Ensure proper reporting of tax metrics provide resolution updates and develop implement and monitor procedures for effective workflow and efficiency in dispute management.

    • Strategic Collaboration & Projects: Collaborate with other Division teams on cross-Divisional customers and best practices and manage assigned special projects including corporate tax-related initiatives.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in accounting or a related field.

  • Requires six (6) years of prior sales tax and customer relations experience in positions of increasing responsibility.

  • Experience with Google Platform.

  • Proficiency with Excel and spreadsheet software with the ability to integrate new technologies.

  • Excellent communication (oral written interpersonal) and customer focus; demonstrated ability to handle difficult situations professionally.

  • Excellent analytical and creative problem-solving skills including sound independent decision-making and escalation judgment.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities work collaboratively in a team and maintain a positive approach with a focus on quality and innovation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Required Length & Type of Experience:

    • Management experience is highly preferred.

    • Experience with Vertex or other sales tax software is a plus.

  • Knowledge Skills & Abilities:

    • Experience with SAP and/or ERP systems is a plus.
