What Youll Do as an Evidence Intake Technician

  • Processes examines & preserves all evidence & property submissions collected from crime scenes or hazardous situations & submitted to laboratory by internal &/or external law enforcement officers to aid in criminal prosecutions.
  • Examines evidence submissions in accordance with OSHP Policies & Procedures guided by the ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB) Ohio Department of Health internal control procedures & laboratory best practices to ensure the integrity & safety of evidence handling.
  • Analyzes evidence receipt form for incoming evidence submissions to ensure key information is not missing; Ensures all evidence &/or property is properly stored warehoused & packaged.
  • Oversees evidence management in the laboratory information management system.
  • Examine verify & validate requests for destruction of evidence &/or property.

Formal education in arithmetic that includes calculating fractions decimals & percentages & in reading writing & speaking English;

AND 12 mos. exp. working in a forensic laboratory biology medical office laboratory or chemistry laboratory law enforcement agency or legal environment;

AND 6 mos. trg. or inventory control (e.g. receiving storing & dispensing of materials).

-Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.

Exposed to hazardous chemicals; may be exposed to human body parts explosives bio-hazardous materials (e.g. blood urine); may require travel.

Background Check Information

  • A BCI and FBI fingerprint check a background check including a polygraph examination may be required on all selected applicants.
  • A comparative analysis and/or drug-test may be a requirement of the hiring process.
  • This position is subject to Federal Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) regulations that prohibit someone to carry transport or otherwise possess firearm(s) and/or ammunition from using or consuming marijuana in any form including recreational marijuana Ohio adult use cannabis medical marijuana or otherwise. As a result the presence of marijuana in a drug test even if used in accordance with Ohio Law will be a positive drug test result which could result in denial of employment.

Position is identified as safety sensitive & is subject to random drug & alcohol testing in accordance with DPS 501.24.
