HVAC Supervisor Industrial Building Automation Systems
Position Summary
We are seeking a highly experienced HVAC Supervisor to lead a team of approximately 20 technicians while overseeing advanced HVAC and building automation systems within a large industrial facility. This is a leadership role for a hands-on expert with deep technical knowledge of air handling systems VFDs VAV controls hydronic systems and enterprise-level building automation platforms including PLC systems Metasys and Tracer Summit. Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Technical Management
Lead mentor and develop a team of approximately 20 HVAC technicians specializing in advanced building automation systems
Provide expert-level technical direction on air handling unit optimization VFD programming and troubleshooting and VAV box calibration
Drive ongoing training initiatives focused on Metasys and Tracer Summit platforms
Ensure team proficiency in PLC communications system integration and controls best practices
Advanced Systems Operations
Direct daily operations of complex air handling systems including supply return and exhaust units equipped with VFDs and economizer controls
Oversee chilled water and hot water distribution systems including pump sequencing valve control and temperature optimization strategies
Ensure peak performance and reliability of package rooftop units integrated into building automation networks
Building Automation & Controls
Manage and optimize Metasys and Tracer Summit building automation systems including graphics development trend analysis and alarm management
Troubleshoot PLC communication networks Modbus protocols and BACnet integration challenges
Coordinate system programming updates setpoint optimization and energy management sequences to improve efficiency and system performance
VAV Systems & Air Distribution
Oversee variable air volume systems including terminal box commissioning airflow sensor calibration and damper actuator maintenance
Manage zone temperature control strategies for both pressure-independent and pressure-dependent VAV systems
Ensure seamless integration between VAV systems and central air handling equipment
VFD Systems & Motor Controls
Direct maintenance programming and troubleshooting of variable frequency drives supporting fans pumps and compressors
Resolve drive communication issues parameter configuration challenges and BAS integration problems
Ensure proper motor protection energy efficiency optimization and harmonic mitigation strategies
Required Qualifications
Experience & Education
Minimum of 810 years of HVAC experience including at least 4 years supervising teams supporting building automation systems
Associate degree in HVAC Controls Technology or Electrical/Mechanical Engineering preferred or equivalent advanced technical experience
Technical Certifications
EPA Universal Refrigerant Handling Certification required
Johnson Controls Metasys certification Trane Tracer Summit certification or equivalent BAS certifications highly preferred
VFD manufacturer certifications (ABB Allen Bradley Schneider) and PLC programming credentials strongly advantageous
Specialized Technical Skills
Expert-level knowledge of air handling unit operation VAV system design and commissioning and chilled/hot water hydronic systems
Advanced proficiency with Metasys and Tracer Summit platforms including graphics creation trend analysis and alarm management
Strong background in PLC programming (Allen Bradley Siemens) Modbus/BACnet protocols and VFD integration within BAS environments
Controls & Communication Systems
Extensive experience with building automation networks including BACnet MS/TP BACnet IP and Modbus RTU/TCP
Proven ability to troubleshoot network communication issues configure gateways and integrate multi-manufacturer equipment
Working knowledge of cybersecurity principles related to building automation systems
Advanced Leadership Competencies
Demonstrated success leading technical teams in complex industrial environments
Experience managing system upgrades retrofit installations and commissioning of integrated BAS networks
Strong analytical skills with a focus on energy optimization and continuous system performance improvement
Working Conditions
This position operates within an industrial environment featuring sophisticated control systems and mechanical equipment. Candidates must be comfortable with laptop-based programming network troubleshooting and accessing elevated equipment locations. Availability for emergency response and after-hours maintenance windows is required.
