The Category Manager General Merchandise is responsible for managing diverse merchandise categories to achieve sales growth margin targets and efficient inventory turnover across multiple product lines.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement category strategies for general merchandise
Manage end-to-end buying assortment planning and vendor management
Analyze sales data demand forecasts and market trends
Optimize pricing promotions and inventory turnover
Coordinate with Operations and Supply Chain for timely replenishment
Manage seasonal assortment planning and product lifecycle
Prepare regular performance and forecast reports for management
Requirements
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Business Administration Marketing or related field
510 years experience in general merchandise retail or buying
Strong understanding of merchandising principles and inventory planning
Experience managing multiple categories simultaneously
Strong analytical negotiation and communication skills
Advanced MS Excel skills; ERP/POS experience is an advantage
Required Skills:
Bachelors degree in Business Marketing Food Technology Management or related field. At least 5-10 years experience as a Category Manager Buyer or Merchandiser in a food-related industry. Strong understanding of food retail supply chain and consumer behavior. Excellent negotiation communication and vendor management skills. Proficient in MS Excel data analysis and category management tools. Strong analytical and decision-making skills Highly organized and able to manage multiple categories in a fast-paced environment.
