This is an incredibly exciting time to join our Asset Management & Maintenance (AMM) Bus Fleet team. We have successfully awarded and now receiving the next generation diesel buses with the latest compliant emission technologies. We are seeking an Engineer Specialist Field Engineering to coordinate and manage day-to-day commissioning activities for the release of these next generation diesel buses into revenue operation. This person will provide on-the-ground support for the commissioning of our modernized diesel fleet. The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on engineering experience in an operations or maintenance environment gained from industries such as highway coach heavy truck or logistics fleet operations.
What will I be doing
- Primary point of contact for the day-to-day commissioning of a modernized diesel fleet prior to wide adoption into full revenue service.
- Oversee inspections of newly delivered buses identifying and reporting operational deficiencies per established pre-delivery inspection (PDI) checklist including but not limited to underbody inspections CAD/AVL functionality smoke testing and wheelchair lift operation.
- Responds to field issues by investigating failures identifying failure modes engineering solutions and maintenance best practices to prevent future occurrences.
- Provides engineering technical support to the AMM Team the Equipment Maintenance Team Fleet Operations Team and maintenance contractors for both the current diesel fleet the modernized diesel fleet and pilot programs for advanced technology fleets.
- Provides equipment performance feedback to vehicle manufacturers.
- Makes recommendations for long-term viability and installation of tested components or sub-systems in conjunction with the operating groups.
- Investigates age maintenance and design-related performance trends and identifies root causes of failures and develop corrective action plans.
- Prepare Engineering Investigation Reports and Root Cause Analysis of emergent equipment failures as needed.
- Create reports to support maintenance planning functions continuous improvement and key performance reporting.
- Collaborates with Equipment Maintenance Operations Team and Technical Services Team to investigate systemic failures that arise within fleet; generates regular progress reports for proposed solutions and countermeasures.
- Assuring the correct interpretation and application of Reliability Availability Maintainability and Safety (RAMS) requirements and acceptance criteria for the assigned rail fleet assets.
- Takes a leadership role in applying industry-leading maintenance strategies (for example Reliability-Centred Maintenance RCM) and developing asset modifications and associated maintenance plans and procedures.
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need
- Completion of a University Degree in Engineering and rail sector or related industry experience or a combination of education training and experience deemed equivalent.
- Demonstrated experiencein maintaining and/or designing electrical/mechanical systems in transit buses and/or coaches for fleet operations. Automotive product development experience would be considered an asset.
- Working knowledge of tools gauges and equipment associated with the engineering testing and/or servicing of the various systems and components for Transit or Automotive Vehicles.
- Working knowledge of air brake and diesel aftertreatment systems and accessing a Vehicle CAN network for fault tree analysis would be an asset.
- Functional knowledge of electric propulsion systems (hybrid and all-electric) is considered an asset.
- Working knowledge of Infor-EAM is considered an asset with experience viewing/editing work orders for equipment in need of preventive maintenance.
- In-depth knowledge of maintenance strategies such as Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM); proven ability to design and develop asset modifications and reflect the configuration changes in maintenance plans and procedures.
- Knowledge of continuous improvement processes like Lean or Six Sigma would be considered an asset.
- Working knowledge of rules and regulations established by Transport Canada (TC) Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO) and the American Public Transit Association (APTA) would be considered an asset.
- Registration or eligible to be registered as a . is considered an asset.
- Registration or eligible to be a licensed 310T technician considered an asset.
- Up-to-date commercial bus drivers license (CZ) considered an asset.
