Job Summary

Reporting To:Director of Learning Center Individualized Programs

Employment Status:Part Time Seasonal

FLSA Status:Non-exempt Hourly

Pay: $4000 - $5000 stipend (depending on years working in/returning to the summer program)

Summary Of Core Responsibilities & Org Relationships:

The Summer Academic Program Teacher plans and executes learning activities for a balanced program of instruction and demonstration. They provide an environment and culture in the classroom that engages students and helps them learn effectively. The small class size allows for individualized instruction and provides a collaborative atmosphere. Our summer program focuses on reading writing and math. We are currently seeking teachers who have experience in any or all of these subjects.

During the summer we are pleased to offer students from the community a tailored high-quality educational experience. Instruction at Groves is explicit structured and multi-modal. Teachers combine their experience and expertise with care and understanding using a diagnostic-prescriptive approach to continually assess and address individual student needs.

Our summer programs employ our proven philosophy of developing strengths and talents remediating academic weaknesses and tailoring instruction to meet individual needs. We offer programs for children entering grades 2-8 who have learning and/or attention disorders such as dyslexia and ADHD.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate a commitment to safeguarding children as a priority

Job Specifications:

Education Experience and Credentials

  • BA/BS in Special Education/Education required
  • 2 years of classroom teaching experience
  • Experience in positive reinforcement and positive behavior supports
  • Math Teacher: Experience in Singapore Math is preferred
  • Reading Teacher: Experience in an Orton-Gillingham-based curriculum or Wilson Reading System is required
  • Writing Teacher: Experience in The Writing Revolution or Kansas Writing Strategies is preferred

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to independently assess students capabilities create appropriate lesson plans and scaffold teaching to student needs
  • Expertise in learning disorders in reading writing and math and attention disorders in a classroom setting
  • Knowledge of executive functioning skills and how deficits in these skills affect academics
  • The ideal candidate exhibits empathy patience and compassion in working with students
  • An intuitive teaching style with the ability to differentiate instruction

Physical Requirements Necessary to Perform This Job

Incumbent must be able to:

  • Hear speak and effectively communicate in the English language including following oral and written instructions in order to communicate with people inside and outside the organization
  • Sit or stand at a desk for extended periods of time and perform long hours of work sitting at a computer and in meetings
  • Apply manual dexterity and visual acuity for computer keyboarding and office equipment use and review detailed reports and information
  • Move around the school and office or classroom area repeatedly or prolonged times throughout the day.
  • Work a flexible schedule including attending and presenting at events and meetings that occur outside of typical work hours as required/scheduled

Tools and Equipment Used

  • Must be able to use computers telephones photocopiers and related office equipment
  • Must be able to lift/move up to 10-35 pounds occasionally depending on your position

Work Environment

  • The work environment is indoors.
  • May occasionally participate in indoor or outdoor off-site student activities for field trips recess etc.
