Staff Engineer / Project Engineer I
Location: Silver Valley Idaho (preferred)
Experience Level: 14 years
Alta Science & Engineering is seeking a motivated early-career engineer to support civil and environmental engineering projects throughout Idaho and the Pacific Northwest. This position offers the opportunity to work on a diverse mix of infrastructure restoration and remediation projects while developing strong technical and field experience alongside senior engineers and project managers.
We are seeking candidates with hydraulic modeling experience and strong Civil 3D drafting and design skills. Experience in SRH-2D modeling HEC-RAZ modeling scour analysis bridge-related civil design FEMA permitting and construction oversight is highly desirable.
This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer seeking hands-on project experience and mentorship while building technical and project delivery skills.
Primary Responsibilities
- Perform hydraulic and hydrologic modeling using HEC-RAS SRH-2D and related tools
- Support floodplain scour and hydraulic structure analysis
Prepare engineering drawings and design layouts using Civil 3D
Assist with grading drainage and site design development
Support preparation of plans specifications and technical reports
Participate in field work including construction observation and documentation
Coordinate with project managers and multidisciplinary teams
Support permitting and regulatory compliance documentation
Mentor and collaborate with junior staff as experience grows
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Civil Environmental or related engineering field
14 years of relevant experience
Experience with hydraulic modeling (HEC-RAS and SRH-2D) - Experience or coursework related to scour analysis and hydraulic structure evaluation
Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D drafting and design
Construction observation or construction oversight experience preferred - Familiarity with bridge-related civil design or construction is beneficial
Experience with FEMA floodplain permitting or CLOMR/LOMR processes is a plus
EIT certification or ability to obtain preferred
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Ability to work both in office and field settings

Location
