Job Summary:
CSA Group has an immediate opening for a Field Certification Engineer (Hazardous Locations) based in the United States to join their North American Field Certification team. You will be responsible for the field certification and/or evaluation of hazardous location products at client sites to ensure compliance with specific electrical safety standards. This role involves travel on-site evaluations field testing and making compliance decisions for products ranging from small batches of control panels to large complex assemblies or manufactured skids. As an accredited third party compliance testing company we play a large role in ensuring safety of these products.
Responsibilities:
Independently conduct on-site and off-site field certification and evaluation of products to determine compliance with applicable standards and codes (NEC/CEC). Identify and document rationale for compliance or non-compliance.
Travel to client locations predominantly in the Western United States with infrequent travel internationally to Canada and Europe.
Demonstrate a strong understanding of the field certification and field evaluation process accreditation requirements and quality management procedures.
Participate in ongoing training and continuing education programs to stay current with changes in codes standards and other requirements.
Prepare communications of findings including corrective actions certification reports certificates of compliance and other related CSA documentation for clients.
Prepare quotation input on project scope standards time required for project completion. Classify product by use environment and function.
Conduct witness test programs at the manufacturers accredited laboratory as needed.
Qualifications:
Post Secondary Degree in Engineering Engineering Technology or related Sciences; or experience as a Licensed Journeyman Electrician; or experience in a related technical field.
Ability to travel as needed with short notice (up to 75% travel).
Ability to manage multiple complex projects and changing schedules and deadlines withsupervision.
Strong conflict resolution skills to be able to handle difficult situations.
Experience with U.S. Canadian and other international product safety standards (e.g. CSA/UL/IEC 60079 series CSA 22.2 No 213 CSA C22.2 No 14 NFPA 496 ANSI/UL 121201 UL 12030)
Familiar with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and Canadian Electrical Code (CEC).
Previous field evaluation experience (desirable).
Experience working with Authorities having Jurisdiction (AHJ) and/or with National Recognized Test Laboratories (NRTL). (desirable).
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and test data.
Knowledge of electrical test equipment.
Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
Strong interpersonal skills; self-starter; good decisions-making skills and organizational skills.
A valid drivers license is required.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly.
Ability to stand walk and bend for extended periods.
Must be able to pass site-specific training and certification.
