A vacancy will arise for a Flt Lt (Any Profession) to serve as Air Safety Risk Manager (ASRM) at RAF Syerston on Additional Duties Commitment Terms and Conditions of Service (TCoS) with an initial proposed start date of 22 June 2026 (or earlier/later subject to candidate status).
2 Flying Training School (2 FTS) based at RAF Syerston trains Qualified Gliding Instructors (QGIs) who provide the RAF Air Cadet (RAFAC) Organisation with character-building flying opportunities which allows members of RAFAC to develop soft skills and a practical interest in aviation. The 2 FTS the Air Safety Management Team (ASMT) provides AS support to Gliding Operations across all nine 2 FTS sites.
A central role within the ASMT responsible to the Air Safety Manager (ASM) the post holder will act as 2 FTS ASRM and through the ASM and the Senior Operator (SO) advise Comdt 2 FTS on all matters relating to AS Risk in order to maintain the highest possible standards of safety and risk awareness for all air activity within 2 FTS. Flexible working options are available.
The post holder will be required to assist in the completion of Assurance and AS Training across 2 FTS Units which are located at 9 different locations around the UK. Normal working hours apply but the post holder will be required to work occasional weekends and travel across the UK.
Key responsibilities but are not limited to:
- Risk Management. Oversee the day-to-day running of all Platform BowTie (BT) within 2 FTS. Use Air Safety data to maintain the relevance and maturity of the 2 FTS BowTie set and conduct BT reviews as required. Conduct SIR analysis and add BowTie comments to DASORs as required.
- Assurance. Assist with the conduct of Air Safety Assurance Visits to 2 FTS flying units.
- Occurrence Management. When required conduct initial occurrence management of AS reports.
