The Corporate Licensing Manager reports into the Licensing Director and is responsible for leading the licensing team to deliver overall revenue and profit objectives for all content including both Books and Journals content. The role requires white space analysis and development of new sectors and industry partners as well as pipeline development tracking and reporting identifying and implementing forward-looking metrics.
Key Accountabilities
- Achieve and exceed annual territory sales targets delivering the overall revenue and profit objectives of the department or specialist area
- Design with the Licensing Director a 1-3 year business plan for the department/area ensuring that activity is both relevant and flexible to the evolving trading environment over time
- Identify and execute strategic activity projects relating to quality improvement and the effectiveness of sales operations delivering quantifiable business benefit
- Lead the licensing team delivering a clear vision for operational effectiveness development of revenue lines through increased trading and profitability
- Negotiate business terms of license agreements working with the Licensing Director
- Manage resources to ensure that the structure and makeup of their team is optimal towards the success of the sales operation
- Report regularly to Licensing Director on sales progress and the business environment this monitoring enabling responsiveness to both the micro and macro trading conditions
- Drive compliance with company trading and terms policy to protect profitability and value of business in the territory
- Actively liaise with other stakeholder departments or groups within the business to enhance T&Fs coverage of the territory
- Where necessary represent the company externally e.g. on working party groups or through networks maintaining a presence and information gathering role on the trading environment
- Attend customer/partner visits as required.
Qualifications :
The ideal jobholder will have:
- Significant experience of working in a commercial environment with an understanding of the demands placed on revenue targets and the support needs of a licensing team
- Experience of leading people and motivating teams
- Considerable knowledge of the scholarly publishing industry and copyright
- Ability to build relationships with current and new customers
- In-depth knowledge of excel as a reporting tool
Skills and Behaviours Required
- The ability to influence drive for results and establish clear agenda for team
- Strong ability to communicate appropriately both upstream and downstream within the organisation
- Positive and flexible attitude willing to take on many different types of tasks and apply to them the same level of effort and expertise
- The ability to work independently and pro-actively with awareness of when to delegate tasks
- Target driven approach and the skills to manage targets and delivery
- Ability to create and maintain positive and effective relationships with the licensing team and other internal colleagues
