Stein Valley Nlakapamux School (SVNS) is a well-established and growing Independent School centrally located in the Fraser Canyon (three hours from Vancouver and Kelowna and two hours from Kamloops). Situated at the base of the Stein Valley the area offers world class outdoor recreational opportunities within close proximity to larger urban centers.

SVNS offers K4 to Grade 12 along with an Adult Education Program. We are an innovative and progressive school that is based on four cultural semesters over twelve months. Our unique school year starts at the end of July with four semesters that are based on the seasons. Each semester is nine or ten weeks with a two or three week break in between semesters. NlakapamuxchEEn language culture and learning on the land are woven throughout our curriculum.

This is an exciting career opportunity to work with a supportive Board of Directors toward language revitalization learning on the land and embedded cultural ways of knowing with the goal of graduating students with the skills and knowledge to thrive.

Employment QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Masters degree in education or substantial progress towards a Masters degree is preferred.
  • Must qualify for or hold teaching certification in the Province of British Columbia.

Professional Experience

  • Significant successful broad-based K-12 educational leadership experience including work as a teacher and preferably as an administrator and/or in other leadership roles.
  • Experience in First Nations environments an asset.

  • Understands First Nations students and their unique needs.
  • Committed to providing opportunities to students for language culture and learning on the land.
  • Ensures the provision of quality education to every student in a welcoming caring respectful safe and inclusive environment.
