About the role:

The AVP Health Platform Owner is a strategic leader in our Canadian agile delivery model responsible for overseeing end-to-end delivery across Healths technology platforms to ensure a great client experience. Reporting to the VP Transformation & Enablement in Canadian Operations the role involves a combination of leadership strategic planning and cross-functional collaboration. They work in close partnership with Technology and Health business leaders to build and execute a roadmap of initiatives aligned to business and Operations strategy ensuring solutions are well designed creating shared capabilities where appropriate and executing and managing change flawlessly. They advocate for the business taking a holistic view of the processes involved and drive improvements that enhance overall organization value and competitiveness.

In this role the Health Platform Owner is responsible for defining the delivery/execution of Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) for the team ensuring that these objectives align with the organizations strategic goals. They drive business value by aligning the delivery activities with the overall organizational strategy ensuring that the value delivered meets or exceeds client expectations and contributes to the organizations success.

What you will be doing:

  • Direct leadership for a team of 25 and indirect for over 300 team members within our agile delivery teams
  • Align the delivery teams with the overall Health business unit and Operations team strategy and goals to ensure all initiatives contribute to the organizations success.
  • Understand client needs and Operations process flows to ensure the model delivers products or capabilities that meet or exceed expectations.
  • Build and oversee the medium/longer term execution and solution roadmap for technology investment to meet business unit and Operations strategic objectives / OKRs in partnership with Technology Leads
  • Define key results to assess the success and health of the delivery teams allowing for data-driven decision making and performance evaluation.
  • Collaborate with journey/hub owners and tech leads to continuously monitor and analyze the flow of work identifying bottlenecks delays and areas of improvements.
  • Serve as thought leader and trusted business advisor to senior management value stream owners and various stakeholders as it pertains to execution/delivery expertise.
  • Partner with technology and platform leaders to deliver strategic solutions that drive value align with the organizations strategy and can be leveraged/reused across business units.
  • Collaborate with various departments and teams involved in delivery acting as the primary Operations platform representative fostering communication and ensuring a seamless flow of work across different functions.
  • Make strategic decisions related to delivery including resource allocation prioritization of capabilities/features and addressing impediments that may hinder progress.
  • Identify and mitigate risks associated with delivery whether related to technology processes or external factors to ensure smooth and reliable delivery.
  • Ensure that the necessary resources including people technology and budget are allocated appropriately to support business unit objectives through delivery of initiatives that have been prioritized at the portfolio level.
  • Work closely with the technology leads architect and the journey/platform owners in end-to-end solution design to ensure technology/process solutions deliver maximum business value while considering user adoption scalability and cross-platform capabilities.

Accountabilities

  • Execution excellence on deliverables towards achieving business outcomes and benefits outlined in the business cases.
  • Initiative roadmaps aligned to OKRs (joint accountability with technology lead).
  • End-to-end solution designs business acceptance and user adoption (joint accountability with technology lead) for each initiative.
  • Stakeholder alignment across business units.
  • Operational readiness transition to business-as-usual teams and adoption of delivered solutions resulting in value realization.
  • Operating model metrics (joint accountability with technology lead)
  • Identifying and mitigating delivery/execution risks related to people technology and processes

Typical Outputs

  • Contribution to the refined business cases and completed value realization plans.
  • Initiative roadmap within the model aligned to OKRs including key milestones highlighting the breakdown into features and proposed delivery sequence.
  • Shape the engagement and collaboration needs by leveraging initial high-level change impact assessments included in the intake and business case information.
  • Adoption and readiness metrics.
  • Defined operational performance metrics reports post-implementation.

Team Management and Leadership

  • Oversee a collection of platform teams comprising multiple squads to deliver against business objectives in partnership with the technology lead.
  • Lead and coach direct reports through proactive career development and continuous feedback loop
  • Operate with a future focused lens to shape the skills positions and organizational structure of the team to meet the ongoing needs of the business and growth objectives.
  • Foster an innovative and risk aware culture across teams through insight inclusion and collaboration.

  • Excellent stakeholder management executive communication relationship building and negotiation skills
  • University degree or related work experience
  • Minimum of 10 years relevant digital delivery experience
  • Proven track record of implementation experience in insurance or financial services technology systems and platforms; Health or Group Benefits knowledge would be an asset
  • Demonstrate knowledge of technology platforms or ability to learn about technology and digital products experience working on technical products is a plus
  • Experience working with Agile teams is an asset
  • As this position is posted in several locations we specify that bilingualism (French English both oral and written) is required for Quebec only for the frequent interactions with English and French-speaking colleagues or internal partners across Canada or worldwide.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other addition to Base Pay eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
