ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT
The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is the worlds largest humanitarian agency working to create a world with zero hunger. To get to a world with Zero Hunger faster WFP is investing in and growing partnerships and fundraising operations with the private sector to leverage the private sectors expertise technology and networks in order to reach more people. The Private Partnerships Division (PSP) is responsible for engaging the private sector (corporations individuals foundations) through high-impact partnerships in support of WFPs strategic priorities and through individual giving to build and retain support from the general public worldwide.
PSP strives to mobilize funding technical assistance innovative solutions and visibility and awareness to help WFP fulfil its mission and operations. From WFPs headquarters in Rome PPF also provides guidance to WFP Regional Bureaux (RB) Country Offices (COs) and HQ Functional Units on partnership development best practices compliance and rules and regulations for engaging with the private sector.
Starting in 2020 WFP embarked upon a new private sector partnerships and fundraising strategy focusing on growing WFPs cooperation with the business sector foundations and individuals. WFPs new private sector strategy () proposes to dramatically increase income from individuals using new digital engagement tools to reach audiences across the globe in a flexible and cost-effective way. Alongside this we have significant plans for growth in brand awareness and broader supporter engagement. Powerful and engaging story-telling and compelling copy throughout our fundraising communications developed in an agile timely and strategic way is critical to achieving this ambition.
We aim to develop a new individual giving programme that delivers a best-in-class donor experience. Our model will operate with the guiding principles of choice control transparency accountability and ease-of-use for our donors. We want our supporters to value and share their engagement with WFP.


PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT
The consultant Creative Lead & Senior Copywriter will produce creative ideas and then plan project manage direct and produce these through to final copy for WFPs communications with its supporters. They will also brief and coordinate the work of other creative producers e.g. designers or collaborate across a team of creative professionals on large- and small- scale marketing projects.
They should have worked at Creative Lead level in a major fundraising agency with a diverse range of clients and delivered sector-leading results from the projects they directed and oversaw with key clients. This must include work with leading humanitarian and development agencies either UN or international NGOs. They should also have significant experience at the strategic level of developing products to build loyalty from supporters differentiate an organization and with an approach that also builds brand awareness.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Conceiving and implementing concepts and strategies in various creative projects and overseeing them to completion.
Lead brainstorming/creative session to generate ideas.
Brief and coordinate the work of other creative producers e.g. designers or collaborate across a team of creative professionals on large- and small-scale marketing projects
Deliver creative concepts and distinctive propositions together with compelling copy.


Develop well-crafted copy for various digital print video and occasional offline initiatives to include both donor and supporter retention and acquisition.

Producing targeted and engaging copy for on-line marketing campaigns and activities based on identified projects/programs. This will include copywriting in response to sudden-onset emergencies.

Crafting engagement content and copy for digital and other platforms including paid digital advertising landing pages and email marketing.

Editing in-house existing content to ensure accuracy and brand consistency.

Create ad-hoc writing for search objectives this includes E-Commerce and web landing pages.

With the Individual Giving team develop a tone of voice and messaging framework when communicating with our key audiences and targeting different demographic and audience niches including multiple nationalities.

Scheduling multiple projects and delivering to deadlines.

Availability for out of hours on-call work including at weekends in the case of a humanitarian or other emergency appeal.

Willingness to be adaptable and roll your sleeves up to get the work done across a small team with big ambitions.

Occasional travel to Rome may be required and potentially travel to the field for specific projects.
Throughout your work build effective ways of working reflect on current processes and approvals and recommend improvements to increase agility and market-responsiveness for teams to shorten our speed to market and increase the time- relevance of supporter engagement.
DELIVERABLES AT THE END OF THE CONTRACT
The consultant will support the Individual Giving team in PSP and work collaboratively with the Communications and Media Office (COM) team and in particular the new Creative Studio to optimize our creative content and output. They will develop digital and offline creative content and communication assets for supporter facing marketing and engagement. Develop offers or propositions that position WFP our work and the people we exist to serve in an engaging way to recruit new donors and achieve differentiation and cut through in a crowded marketplace. messages that. Every assignment should respect WFPs tone of voice brand message guidelines and global editorial standards while driving supporter engagement and an increased level of retention and acquisition of new supporters. This will be achieved by developing offer propositions or products and by providing customized messaging and copy based on defined donor and supporter segments and audiences and best practice standards.
These audiences will be from multiple countries around the world so although communications will be generated and produced in English they will need to resonate in multiple countries.


QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Education
University Degree preferable in the field of Bachelors degree in a relevant discipline
e.g. English Journalism Advertising Communications or Marketing.
Work history
12 years progressive experience working in or leading teams to deliver results in
individual giving through delivering creative projects
Experience working at Creative Lead level in a major fundraising agency with a diverse range of clients
Track record of delivering sector-leading results from the projects they directed and oversaw with key clients and coordinating the work of multiple creative professionals
Experience working with leading humanitarian and development agencies either UN or international NGOs as clients
Significant experience at the strategic level of developing products to build loyalty from supporters
Demonstrated ability to be data-driven and evidence-led and use performance and insights to inform decision-making to deliver higher returns in a programme
At least 5 years of copywriting experience in a creative environment including fundraising including both digital and offline channels
Experience of working with brand guides and editorial standards
Technical skills
Ability to write clear attractive and compelling copy with a distinct brand voice and calls to action
Strong copywriting and copy-editing skills
