Director of Communications
Bishop OConnell High School seeks a creative and mission-driven Director of Communications for the current school year.
The Director of Communications reports to the Head of School and is responsible for planning coordinating and implementing all external communications in support of the schools Catholic mission identity and strategic goals. This role promotes the schools mission achievements and student life to the school community and beyond while ensuring accuracy clarity and consistency across all platforms.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Communications
Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy aligned with the schools mission and strategic plan.
Serve as a key partner to the schools leadership team on communications and public relations matters.
Ensure consistent branding messaging and visual identity across all forms of media.
Marketing and Public Relations
Promote the school to prospective families and the wider community.
Review marketing campaigns for admissions enrollment advancement and major school initiatives.
Manage media relations including press releases media inquiries and crisis communications often in coordination with the Diocesan media office.
Digital Media and Print Materials
Oversee content creation for the school website social media email communications and publications.
Produce the Weekly KnightLine e-newsletter for students faculty and families.
Work with Admissions and Advancement staff to review all outreach media for clarity consistency and engagement/appeals. Work collaboratively with a multitude of offices and programs across the school to support the development review and production of printed materials and messaging needs.
Qualifications
Required
Bachelors degree in communications marketing journalism public relations or a related field
Minimum of ten years experience in communications marketing or public relations
Competence working with content management systems for websites and other public facing applications
Excellent written verbal and interpersonal communication skills
A team player with meticulous attention to detail
Preferred
Experience in a Catholic school parish diocese or faith-based organization
Knowledge of Catholic teachings culture and school environments
Skills in photography and photo editing
Personal Characteristics
Enthusiastic commitment to the mission of Catholic education
Professional discretion and sound judgment
Collaborative creative and service-oriented mindset
Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
