Job Summary
The University of Portland located in Portland Oregon USA invites applications for a tenure-track position as an Associate Professor and Director of Graduate Programs in the School of Nursing & Health Innovations to begin as early as May 2026. Successful candidates will be DNP -Family Nurse Practitioners who are prepared to contribute to the Universitys DNP - FNP graduate program and additional programs as they are developed. The University of Portland is a primarily undergraduate institution comprising four professional schools and the College of Arts and Sciences ( CAS ) which houses our strong liberal arts Core Curriculum required of all students. The University Core provides students in all disciplines a unifying set of experiences and promotes engagement with the Six Core Habits of Heart and Mind which include Global & Historical Consciousness and Commitment to Diversity & the Common Good. The School of Nursing & Health Innovations ( SONHI ) values a diversity of backgrounds and intellectual perspectives that create an environment of rich student mentoring within a community of scholars. Successful candidates will have a high level of enthusiasm and engagement in innovative and inclusive pedagogy and are dedicated to addressing social determinants of health. The SONHI implements state of the art simulation in ambulatory acute and telemedicine facilities for both graduate and undergraduate students. The DNP -Family Nurse Practitioner program focuses on integrative health and prepares graduates to: practice independently in a variety of primary care health environments translate best evidence into practice employ a population focus incorporate an integrative and/or palliative health care perspective and collaborate with multiple disciplines with the goal of providing effective comprehensive health care; demonstrate leadership in macro and micro health care system change and personal practice improvement; and proactively strive for social justice actively address health disparities and function as culturally competent practitioners who relate effectively with diverse and underserved individuals families and populations. Tenure-track faculty are responsible for maintaining teaching obligations participation in student advising service on committees in the School as well as the greater University public relations roles involvement in professional associations and public service. All tenure-track faculty are expected to demonstrate a habit of scholarship which requires dissemination to the nursing profession in various venues.
