JOB PURPOSE
Reporting to the Manager Human Resources (HR) the HR Generalist has the responsibility to support all SNP Human Resources functionalities with a particular focus on full-cycle recruitment pension and benefits administration and job analysis across the organization including the development and implementation of diverse HR strategies across the organization. The position assists the Manager Human Resources in ensuring employee-centred programs and processes are effectively executed and managed in accordance with SNP policy and procedures Employment Law and Human Rights legislation. The Human Resources Generalist is required to perform all duties consistent with the governance values and operating policies of Six Nations Polytechnic (SNP) while fostering positive relations with staff students stakeholders and the community; contributing to a culturally supportive teaching learning and work environment consistent with Hodinǫshǫ:nih/Rotinonhson:ni values of Ganigohi:yo:/Kanikoriio (Respect and the Good Mind).
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Staffing 30%
- Ensuring that all staffing processes align with organizational policy and comply with all applicable Employment and Human Rights legislation;
- Ensuring that all staffing processes reflect SNPs values of diversity and Indigenous inclusion for the people it hires and serves;
- Assisting in the development and taking the lead on implementation of recruitment and retention strategies to enable SNP to attract qualified employees who align with the organizations mission and values;
- In coordination with the Manager Human Resources and Senior Director Operations and Human Resources identifying short and long-term staffing objectives assessing hiring priorities on an ongoing basis and designing and implementing processes and timelines to meet these objectives and priorities;
- Leading full-cycle recruitment processes including JIQ and job description development sourcing candidates posting of positions using the HRIS candidate screening interview question development interview scheduling and participation contract development and the onboarding and orientation of new hires;
- Attending career fairs presenting at industry events and building networks through the Six Nations community educational institutions and government agency initiatives;
- Assisting in the development of a formal orientation process and package for new hires;
Pension and Benefits 5%
- Administers and manages pension and benefits for all applicable SNP employees including new employee enrollment termination of departing employees periodic plan changes and reporting and compliance;
- Serving as the first point of contact for employee benefit or pension plan concerns updates and questions;
- Coordinating with payroll for employee benefit and pension deductions and providing detailed updates in a timely manner;
- Organizing pension and benefits training and seminars with providers as well as managing the ordering and distribution of relevant plan materials;
- Engaging with service providers to review and update employee pension and benefit plan structure and fees;
- Promoting and managing the Employee Assistance Program for all employees;
- Reviewing details and confirming information on all forms received from employees prior to processing; contacting employees for verification of information or for missing information;
Organizational Development and Strategic Planning 15%
- In coordination with Senior Leadership the Manager Human Resources and the HR team identifying short and long-term HR objectives followed by design and implementation of programs to meet these objectives;
- Participating in the ongoing analysis of short-term and long term HR planning objectives;
- Supporting the design and implementation of practices systems and techniques that affect positive organizational change;
- Playing a supportive role in the forecasting for HR requirements matching HR resource supply with organizational demands;
- Assisting with the development and application of strategic mechanisms to assess the effectiveness of HR functions and their ability to successfully meet organizational needs;
- Collaborating to problem solve using organizational resources to improve overall productivity and efficiency;
Learning and Development 5%
- Assisting in the design and/or implementation of programs and services that encourage employees to grow professionally to be effective in their roles;
- Assisting with the design and implementation of an annual professional development plan in line with development priorities of SNP;
Employee Relations and Engagement 10%
- Endorsing a positive working environment by modelling effective communications and behaviours;
- Participating in the development and implementation of employee wellness programs and initiatives tailored to the culture mission vision and values of SNP;
- Collaborating on the identification planning and execution of employee activities to engage all employees as a team and facilitate improved employee moral;
- Engaging the SNP workforce in activities and programs that endorse a working climate free of discrimination violence and harassment;
General Administration 35%
- Providing administrative and research support to Leadership to ensure informed decision-making and accurate internal workforce planning;
- Assisting the Manager Human Resources in the development and distribution of HR reports to employees Senior Leadership and regulatory bodies;
- Drafting general forms letters and memos as required;
- Organizing and maintaining various filing systems including the HRIS electronic files data tracking spreadsheets and employee personnel files onsite and off-site;
- Under the direction of the Manager Human Resources managing and actioning high volume transactional and administrative requests related to HR operation deliverables ensuring documentation and tracking systems and files are up to date and easy to navigate;
- Assisting the Manager Human Resources in processing employee updates related to new hires transfers leaves and departures including updates to the HRIS;
- Co-ordinating scheduling and verifying various appointments meetings and trainings as required; and
- Providing consistent timely and accurate information to employees and Managers in accordance with pension and benefit plan rules organizational policies and the provisions of employment agreements;
- Other related duties as required.
EDUCATIONAL KNOWLEDGE
- Completion of a formal post-secondary/college program of one to two academic year(s) in Human Resources or a related field.
- CHRP or CHRL is considered an asset.
EXPERIENTIAL KNOWLEDGE / CULTURE AND LANGUAGE EXPERTISE
- Over 3 years and including 5 years related experience or in a similar role.
