Job Summary

Job Title: Mainframe Development Engineer

Location: Cincinnati OH (Day 1 Onsite)

Duration: 6-12 Months Contract

Interview: MS Teams then Final round Face to Face

Job Summary: A Mainframe Development Engineer plays a critical role in maintaining and enhancing legacy systems that are foundational to many large enterprises especially in sectors like banking insurance and government.

Core Responsibilities:

Application Development & Maintenance

Design code test and debug programs written in languages like COBOL JCL PL/I or Assembler.
Maintain and enhance existing mainframe applications to meet evolving business needs.

System Integration

Integrate mainframe systems with modern platforms (e.g. APIs cloud services).
Work with middleware and data exchange tools to ensure seamless communication between systems.

Database Management

Manage and optimize mainframe databases such as DB2 or IMS.
Write and tune SQL queries and ensure data integrity and performance.

Batch Job Scheduling

Create and manage batch jobs using tools like CA-7 Control-M or Tivoli.
Monitor job execution and troubleshoot failures.

Performance Tuning & Optimization

Analyze system performance and implement improvements.
Use tools to monitor CPU usage memory and I/O operations.

Documentation & Compliance

Maintain detailed documentation of code processes and system changes.
Ensure compliance with industry standards and internal policies (e.g. SOX GDPR).

Databases: DB2 IMS

Operating Systems: z/OS MVS

Tools: TSO/ISPF SDSF Abend-AID File-AID

Version Control: Endevor Changeman

Job Scheduling: CA-7 Control-M

Debugging: Xpeditor IBM Debug Tool

Integration: Proficiency in ensuring seamless data flow and integration between systems.

Code Review and Guidance: Ability to conduct code reviews and provide technical guidance to development teams.

Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to present and vet solution designs with architecture teams and review boards.
