Job Summary

Substitute ABE Instructors are temporary part-time positions hired on an as-needed basis. These instructors will be required to work inside a correctional facility.

General Purpose and Scope of the position:

Help students to learn subject matter which will lead toward fulfillment of their potential intellectual emotional and psychological growth. Directs assesses and evaluates the learning experiences of the students along with assessing the effectiveness of the academic area/s in which he/she is employed to teach.

We are currently looking for substitute instructors for the Wabash Valley Correctional Facility located in Carlisle IN.

Major Responsibilities:

Provide guidance and counsel to the students which will promote their welfare and their proper educational development.
Administers the classroom and its program of organization and management.
Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with students peers and community leaders.
Prepare and provide quality instruction.
Provide projects papers etc. that are relevant to the course and to student learning.
Demonstrate knowledge of content area along with on-going personal study and research.
Begin and end classes on time according to DOC Correctional Facility and Ivy Tech schedules.
Present clear complete and accurate explanations so that students understand what is expected.
Approach subject matter in a positive and enthusiastic manner.
Receive learners questions comfortably and answers them clearly and completely.
Provide consistent un-biased feedback on student work in a timely fashion.
Present content relevant to the objectives of the course as found in the syllabi.
Ask relevant questions throughout the lesson to check for understanding.
Cooperate with students and assist when they miss class.
Make provisions if known for students with identified exceptionalities.
Provide for the care and protection of Ivy Tech property
Encourage active student participation.
Attends meetings as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Associates degree; Area of specialized training or experience. Hold a current substitute teacher license or teacher license OR be willing to obtain a substitute teacher license.

Preferred Qualifications:

Familiarity with TABE and/or HiSet Testing. Prior experience working in a correctional facility
