Primary Purpose:
Direct and manage the boys athletic program of extracurricular and intramural athletics for the district. Work to provide each student with opportunity to participate in an extracurricular athletic activity and ensure compliance with all state University Interscholastic League (UIL) and local requirements.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Valid Texas teaching certificate with physical education endorsement
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of overall operations of an athletic program
Knowledge of state and UIL policies governing athletics
Ability to implement policy and procedures
Ability to interpret data
Ability to manage budget and personnel and coordinate district function
Strong communication public relations and interpersonal skills
Experience:
Head coaching experience preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Program Planning
1. Direct and manage districts male athletic program and facilities for grades 5-8.
2. Establish physical and academic eligibility requirements for participation in each sport and verify each athletes eligibility.
3. Maintain an active program that promotes good sportsmanship and student development.
4. Plan necessary time resources and materials to support accomplishment of athletic department goals.
Athletic Events
5. Prepare and approve all boys interscholastic game schedules.
6. Arrange transportation for boys out-of-town athletic events.
7. Oversee process of cleaning repairing and storing all boys athletic equipment.
8. Coordinate the use of all gymnasium facilities by nonschool groups.
Student Management
9. Implement district student management policies communicate expected student behavior related to athletics and ensure enforcement of student discipline in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
10. Establish and maintain open lines of communication by conducting conferences on vital issues with parents students and teachers.
Policy Reports and Law
11. Implement the policies established by federal law state law State Board of Education rule UIL rules and local board policy in area of athletics.
12. Compile maintain file and present all physical and computerized reports records and other documents required.
Personnel Management
13. Prepare review and revise job descriptions for athletic staffing.
14. Recruit select train and supervise all boys athletic department personnel and make sound recommendations to the Athletic Director about personnel placement assignments retention discipline and dismissal.
15. Evaluate job performance of the boys coaching staff to ensure effectiveness.
Community Relations
16. Articulate the districts mission and goals in the area of athletics to community and solicit its support in realizing mission.
17. Demonstrate awareness of district and community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs.
18. Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.
19. Support athletic booster club activities.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervise and evaluate the performance of coaches and support staff.
Working Conditions:
Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment; P.E.
teachers: automated external defibrillator (AED)
Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting bending/stooping pushing/pulling and twisting
Motion: Frequent walking reaching with hands and arms and handle or feel
Lifting: The employee may frequently lift and/or move up to 75 pounds; may lift and move text books and
classroom equipment
Specifically as a coach the employee is regularly required to continually walk and stand; moderate lifting and carrying; stooping bending kneeling and reaching. Work outside (exposure to sun heat cold and inclement weather) and inside. Exposure to biological hazards bacteria and communicable diseases. Frequent districtwide and statewide travel; frequent prolonged and irregular hours.
Environment: Work inside may work outside; regular exposure to noise
Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours
