Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plans and delivers lessons to promote students English language development.
- Collaborates with classroom teachers and specialists to ensure achievement of EL/MLs across content areas through the Sheltered Instruction and the English Language Development program models.
- Administers formative and summative assessments to monitor language progress and ensure student achievement.
- Completes documentation required for compliance with state and federal guidelines.
- Completes daily logs of student services.
- Attends regular Professional Development offerings.
- Be available for afternoon and evening parent-teacher conferences and school events.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Candidates for English Language (EL) Teacher positions should preferably hold a valid teaching license for the grades they will serve (K-8 or 6-12) and an English as a Second Language (NS) or a Bilingual endorsement. Minimally candidates for this position must be on an approved pathway towards gaining licensure for the grades they serve (K-8 or 6-12) within three years and then obtain an NS or YA-YT endorsement within 2 years of certification.
- Demonstrates knowledge of first and second language acquisition theory second language learning patterns and best practices in English language development.
- Reflects an awareness and acceptance of cultural differences exhibited by the students and their families.
- Possesses those characteristics necessary for acting as an advocate for multilingual families within the school.
- Read analyze and interpret student academic data.
- Demonstrates the ability to effectively communicate with classroom teachers administration and families.
