Job Summary

STAFF ACCOUNTANT (Tax-Focused) - In Office

Our client is a well-established and growing organization with an immediate opening for a Staff Accountant (Tax-Focused) at its new Plymouth MN office. Reporting directly to the Controller youll become the go-to person for sales/use and property tax compliance while also supporting month-end close and core accounting activities. If youre coming from public accounting / public tax and want to move in-house this role is a strong match.

WHAT YOULL BE DOING / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Tax focus (approx. 6070%)

Prepare and file Sales & Use Tax and Property/PPT returns accurately and on time
Maintain and manage tax tracking spreadsheets and due-date calendars
Maintain customer exemption certificates and support compliance documentation
Partner with internal stakeholders to solve tax-related issues and keep processes audit-ready

Month-end close core accounting (approx. 25%)

Prepare journal entries assist with month-end close and maintain general ledger accounts
Perform bank reconciliations and account reconciliations
Support expense reporting
Review account activity for accuracy and resolve discrepancies

Process improvement

Identify gaps propose solutions and create repeatable processes that make the work faster cleaner and more accurate
Jump in on special projects and other duties as assigned

WHAT WERE LOOKING FOR / QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelors degree in Accounting (or Business with equivalent accounting experience)
3 years of accounting experience; public accounting / tax experience is welcome
Strong working knowledge of GAAP
Experience with accounting software Microsoft Business Central is desired
Experience with sales tax software Avalara is desired Concur One Source
Proficiency in MS Office Suite with Advanced Excel Skills necessary and Jet reporting skills desired
Youre analytical detail-oriented and comfortable solving problems without needing perfect instructions
Strong communication skills and a jump in and help mindset
