The Opportunity

The Catalyst and Community Engagement program offers a series of STEM-based initiatives designed for youth in Grades 3-10 exposing them to diverse STEM fields and career pathways. These initiatives are delivered through partnerships with youth- and community-focused organizations ensuring accessible and engaging learning experiences.

  • Community Access: Hands-on interactive STEM modules designed to spark curiosity and increase youth interest confidence and awareness in STEM. These sessions are delivered in collaboration with partners such as Toronto Community Housing (TCH) Boys and Girls Club and other community organizations during their day camp programming.
  • Active Living: Engaging youth in sport and movement-themed STEM workshops. These workshops use sport as lens to engage youth in STEM concepts. These sessions are delivered in collaboration with partners such as Lay-Up Youth Basketball and other community organizations during their day camp programming.
  • Workshops & Community Engagement Pop-up workshops and hands-on STEM learning opportunities with community partners and school boards tailored for youth across different communities creating accessible entry points for STEM exploration.

Position Overview
As a Site Lead you will oversee the successful delivery of programming at your assigned site(s) while also facilitating sessions directly with participants. You will lead supervise and mentor a team of Program Facilitators ensuring workshops are high-quality inclusive and impactful. Site Leads play a pivotal role in cultivating safe and supportive environments building strong relationships with youth families educators and partners and ensuring program quality at the site level.

We are seeking individuals who are confident working with low-income and racialized communities and who bring strong leadership facilitation operational and youth engagement skills. The ideal candidate is passionate about improving the lives of youth experienced in supervising and supporting a team and adaptable to the dynamic needs of community-based programming.

Position Details
  • Contract Type: Seasonal Hourly Full-Time Contract
  • Hours: Monday to Friday up to 35 hours/week. Occasional weekend events may be required
  • Contract Duration: May 11 2026 - September 4 2026
  • Mandatory Availability:
  • Must be available for the full duration of the contract (May 11 Sept 4 2026).
  • Required Weekend Date: Mandatory Summer Showcase on Saturday August 15 2026.
  • Location(s): This is an in-person role based in various communities and locations across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). The ability to travel within Toronto is required. Please ensure you have reliable transportation or the ability to commute to different locations as needed.Facilitators will be assigned to a primary region wherever possible; however the ability to travel within Toronto is required.   • West (including but not limited to areas such as Rexdale Etobicoke North York Brampton)
  • East (including but not limited to areas such as Scarborough and Malvern)

  • Salary: $24.12 CAD/hr

Major Duties and Responsibilities (including but not limited to)

Program Leadership & Facilitation
  • Plan prepare and deliver STEM workshops and community engagement sessions in alignment with program goals.
  • Lead and supervise a team of Program Facilitators to ensure engaging inclusive and high-quality delivery.
  • Create a welcoming inclusive and safe learning environment that fosters participant curiosity confidence and leadership.
  • Coordinate with community partners and educators to enhance programming.
  • Oversee site set-up and tear-down including managing program materials and inventory to ensure sessions are properly equipped.
  • Oversee the delivery drop-off and pick up of materials to sites

Participant & Community Engagement
  • Build rapport and supportive relationships with youth families and community partners.
  • Promote teamwork leadership and positive youth development during program activities.
  • Communicate program updates reminders and opportunities to participants families and community partners.
  • Supervise participants to ensure safety and well-being during workshops events and activities.

Program Administration & Evaluation
  • Maintain accurate attendance surveys and session records uploading to online databases.
  • Administer evaluation tools to assess program effectiveness and outcomes.
  • Share session highlights participant stories and outcome data to inform program reports.
  • Track restock and maintain program materials and inventory ensuring resources are ready and available for all sessions.
  • Participate in debriefs reflection meetings and program reviews.

Team & Organizational Support
  • Mentor and support Program Facilitators through training coaching and feedback.
  • Support organizational events outreach activities and special assignments as needed.
  • Represent Visions of Science positively and professionally with families partners and community members.

What Were Looking For

Education & Training
  • Interest in current study of or completion of a field related to STEM education child and youth care or social work is preferred

Experience & Expertise
  • Minimum 1 year of experience with Visions of Science or 2 years of leadership in youth-focused community-based programs.
  • Proven facilitation experience with children and youth preferably in low-income and/or racialized communities.
  • Experience supervising or mentoring staff volunteers or youth leaders.
  • Familiarity with lesson planning workshop delivery and program evaluation tools.
  • Strong interpersonal behavioral management and conflict resolution skills.
Key Competencies & Skills
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities; able to mentor supervise and support Program Facilitators.
  • Excellent facilitation and youth engagement skills; able to lead interactive STEM workshops.
  • Clear and confident communication skills with team members youth families and community partners.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills; able to manage logistics reporting and timelines.
  • Adaptability and problem-solving skills to respond to dynamic program needs and environments
  • Commitment to fostering inclusive safe and empowering spaces for youth from equity-deserving communities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word Excel and Google Drive.
Additional Asset(s)
  • Lived experience in low-income and racialized communities.
  • Valid G license and access to a vehicle. (preferred)
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Experience in the non-profit sector and knowledge of systemic issues affecting communities.
