Job Summary

ABOUT US: Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society (AARCS)is a registered non-profit charity located in Calgary Alberta helping over 4000 animals find loving adoptive homes each year. Our mission is to rescue and rehome animals in need and provide community support programs that help people and their pets.

THE ROLE: The Foster Home Coordinator is responsible for overseeing foster homes and the animals in their care including both cats and dogs. You have a natural ability to work with others and are friendly approachable and able to provide exceptional support to staff volunteers and foster homes while remaining open-minded and non-judgmental. You take great personal satisfaction in your relationships with key stakeholders and have a strong understanding of animal behaviour medical needs and appropriate foster placements. Evening or weekend work may occasionally be required to accommodate the needs of the organization.

Details:

Position: Full-time 1 Year Term with possibility of extension.

Shift: Tuesday to Saturday 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM flexible schedule to accommodate some evenings and weekends when needed.

Salary Range: $41000 - $48500 annually based on experience and qualifications.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Genuine interest in animal welfare with good understanding of animals and their behaviour.

  • Emotional resilience to handle difficult or stressful situations.

  • Moderate level of office software proficiency in MS Word Excel Internet Google platform and databases.

  • High level of conflict resolution skills; ability to work calmly and proactively through challenges

  • Strong organizational and technical skills.

  • Proven track record of being able to cultivate positive working relationships.

  • Personable with the ability to develop a positive rapport with stakeholders.

  • Animal handling experience; including ability or willingness to work with feral and under socialized animals.

  • A quick thinker and efficient self-starter who takes initiative; has the ability to set priorities and manage workloads with minimal supervision.

PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Primarily focus on a designated species while remaining cross-trained and able to assist with foster homes and animals of other species as needed.

  • Oversee foster homes for all species providing guidance support and regular communication to ensure ongoing satisfaction and engagement.

  • Facilitate timely foster placements including sending discharge sheets within 24 hours.

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in PetPoint and internal tracking systems.

  • Communicate frequently with foster homes including scheduled check-ins and regular newsletters.

  • Coordinate and manage foster home supply requests including specialty food medications and other necessities.

  • Collaborate with veterinary staff to communicate with foster homes regarding animal health.

  • Assist with animal care in shelter including administering medications when required.

  • Manage foster home concerns and grievances in a timely manner escalating as needed.

  • Ensure adoptable animals are posted on the website following up with foster homes for bios and photos.

  • Work seamlessly with the intake team shelter staff and medical team to ensure smooth movement and flow of animals in and out of the shelter.

  • Collaborate with all program staff to attend adoption events and support special programs as requested.

  • Support critter foster homes as requested including filling supply requests or discharging animals to foster.

  • Provide on-call support to foster homes and/or shelter caregivers in the case of an emergency during a one week rotation as needed but approximately once every 12 weeks.


EDUCATION/TRAINING:

  • Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • One year experience in a shelter environment is considered an asset.

  • Experience in Pet Point is considered an asset.

Other Requirements:

  • A valid Drivers license.
