As a Labourer in Parks and Road Services you will do different labour construction and landscaping jobs. Youll work with different-sized crews and help make our city better. Each day brings new tasks in different places and youll work various shifts in a variety of weather conditions.

Whats in store for you Well that depends on your assigned area but in this role get ready to:
- Perform light to medium shovel work including digging holes
- Care for shrubs and flower beds (watering planting weeding mulching pruning cutting and clearings)
- Load and unload materials
- Turf care including mowing and rimming
- Sports Field maintenance (topsoilseeding aerating fertilizing overseeding) and line marking
- Grind patch pour spread and level concrete
- Operate and perform minor maintenance of equipment
- Operate light delivery vehicles to transport materials supplies and pull trailers
- Assist tradespeople in general maintenance and construction
- Maintain roadways including paving crack sealing and manhole and pothole repairs
- Sweep sidewalks and collect garbage in parks playgrounds streets and natural areas
- Service and monitor amenities in parks such as fire pits washrooms and pavilions
- Assist with urban forestry including tree maintenance tree planting stump grinding and nursery operations
- Apply fertilizer and/or pesticides
- Targeted sanitation services
- Assist in the maintenance and inspection of wooden sidewalks steps fences guardrails playspaces chain link fences retaining walls bridge structures and foundations
- Clean vacant encampments across Edmonton remove chemical and bio-hazardous waste needles and large volumes of debris and refuse from encampments
- Other duties as assigned

Assets:
- Valid First Aid Certification
- Previous general labour experience
- Experience using hand or power tools
- WHMIS Certification including experience using MSDS sheets

Conditions of Employment:
- Valid Alberta Class 5 drivers license (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Drivers permit is a requirement of this position. Successful candidates will be required to provide a current 5 year drivers abstract
- A minimum of 1 year driving experience holding at least a Class 5 drivers license in any province/country (including GDLs or equivalents)
- Successful candidates will be fit for a respirator and compliance with the City of Edmontons Code of Practice for Respiratory Protective Equipment including medical monitoring.
- Hours of Work: 40 hours per week Sunday-Saturday 24/7 coverage. Applicants may be required to work: shift work with short notice holidays after hours and early mornings as required to fulfill operational requirements.
Successful candidates may be eligible for recall in the 2027 season
Note: Individuals unable to work the entire 2026 season may be considered for the Relief Labourer position at a lower hourly rate of pay. Relief Labourers may work up to a maximum of 18 weeks from mid April 2026 to September 2026.
Up to 500 temporary full-time positions for up to 9 months
IMPORTANT: This position is expected to start in May or June 2026.
Salary:
- Relief Labourer: $23.628 (starting rate) - $26.375 Hourly
- Labourer I: $24.416 (starting rate) - $33.470 Hourly
