Program Summary

KBR maintains and manages Army prepositioned stocks at the Army Field Support Battalion - Charleston (AFSBn-CHS) land site and aboard ship to include all logistics and maintenance operations. The KBR APS-3 Program is managed and executed at Goose Creek in support of the Armys power projection doctrine and resources. The contract provides maintenance of APS-3 stocks (Class II IIIP IV VII IX) to ensure that unit sets stored aboard marine vessels are configured and maintained at optimal readiness. KBR provides limited maintenance and supply support aboard ship to ensure that equipment sets are maintained in a ready condition for emergency download and issue to operating units at the direction of the US Army. KBR also provides maintenance services and logistical support for other Army programs IAW individual scope of work contract requirements.

Job Summary

The Automotive Worker (Mech II) performs a variety of minor repairs and services to maintain motor vehicles. The Automotive Worker places and maintains decals on vehicles checks and replaces batteries rotates repairs and replaces tires washes polishes and cleans interiors and exteriors of vehicles drains flushes and replaces engine transmission and differential grease and oils checks cleans calibrates and replaces spark plugs cleans and replaces oil and air filters. The Automotive Worker adjusts brakes replaces windshield wipers and similar minor parts assists on major overhaul jobs by disassembling and cleaning parts repairing components such as generators and water pumps and replacing thermostats points electrical wiring and other items maintains tools and equipment and cleans work areas.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of minor repairs and services to maintain motor vehicles.

  • Place and maintain decals on vehicles

  • Check and replace batteries.

  • Rotate repair and replace tires.

  • Wash polish and clean interiors and exteriors of vehicles.

  • Drain flush and replace engines transmissions and differential grease and oils.

  • Check clean calibrate and replace spark plugs.

  • Clean and replace oil and air filters.

  • Adjust brakes.

  • Replace windshield wipers and similar minor parts.

  • Assist on major overhaul jobs by disassembling and cleaning parts.

  • Repair components such as generators and water pumps.

  • Replace thermostats points electrical wiring and other items.

  • Maintain tools and equipment and cleans work areas.

  • Use personal tools along with government furnished special tools to perform preventative maintenance and general repairs on all automotive tactical and combat equipment assigned or work loaded to the APS-03 program.

  • Perform field level maintenance on U.S. Military automotive equipment including inspection parts identification and requisition servicing and repair in accordance with technical specifications and specified repair times.

  • Maintain maintenance records and documentation in accordance with government regulations and local policies.

  • Properly use store account for and disposal of hazardous materials and waste used and generated in the performance of duties.

  • Comply with all federal state and local regulations and procedures for handling and disposal of hazardous materials.

  • Handle movement of materiel and assets with forklifts and dollies.

  • Upon notification from the government deploy to support issuing or receipt of equipment.

  • At times wear personal protective equipment such as hearing and eye protection hard hat and steel-toed boots as well as Individual Protective Equipment (IPE) which may include but not limited to Level III plus/IV Individual Body Armor with both front and back ballistic plates ACH helmet clothing (undergarments shirts and pants and/or coveralls) reflective vests/belts sound suppression devices etc.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Work on this schedule: Monday - Thursday 6:30am - 5:00pm (OT/weekendsas required during ship cycle).

Basic Qualifications (Required Education Experience Skills and Certifications)

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen with a valid U.S. Passport.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC)

  • Must meet deployment qualifications and maintain deployable status.

  • Must obtain and maintain local base access.

  • Requires at least 4 years of directly related work experience.

  • Must have a certificate of training from vocational school or other recognized source with a major study in automotive maintenance or other related field.

  • Requires a certificate of training from a basic automotive maintenance course.

  • In lieu of formal course work a combination of college credits on-the-job training other formalized training or experience may be considered.

  • Must be able to interpret and apply technical instruction schematics and diagrams.

  • Must possesses personal tools that meets the required tool list.

  • Must possess a valid State Drivers License.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to stand - between 2 to 3 hours per day.

  • Must be able to walk - between 4 to 5 hours per day.

  • Must be able to Lift - up to 35 lbs. 50 lbs. periodically.

  • Must be able to squat knell bend reach and climb periodically.

  • Must be able to work outside and inside in non-climate-controlled environments.
