Job Summary

A vacancy has arisen for a Flt Lt (Air Ops (Any) Pilot (Any) of WSO (Any) to serve as SO3 Air Safety Assurance at RAF Shawbury on Additional Duties Commitment (180) Terms and Conditions of Service (TCoS) with an initial proposed start date of 29 June 2026 (or earlier/later subject to candidate status).

RAF Shawbury is a busy tri-service Phase 2 and Phase 3 training unit home to Number 1 Flying Training School (1FTS) and the Defence College of Air and Space Operations (DCASO). The role is in support of 2/22 Gp as part of the Air Safety Team/Ops Flt specifically in the assurance and auditing fields.

As SO3 Air Safety Assurance ADC 180 Days you will be responsible for:

Act as the focal point for all Ops Air Safety assurance activity.
Provide compliance evidence/1Party Audit (PA) of the RAF Shawbury Defence Aerodrome Manual (DAM) Relief Landing Ground (RLG) Tern Hill DAM and RLG Chetwynd DAM using the corresponding Defence Aerodrome Assurance Frameworks (DAAF).
Co-ordinate 1PA of Ops owned Contingency Plans (CP). (CP2 Crash & Major Incident Plan CP3 OP BLACKTOP CP4 Op REBECCA CP5 Op VIENNA CP7 Op DOWNBIRD CP9 Drones).
Co-ordinate 1PA of Regulatory Article (RA) 1026 Aerodrome Operator Responsibilities requirements.
Manage the Compliance & Assurance Framework (CAF).
Promote and ensure that Ops Continuous Improvement activity is recorded on the Ops Quality Improvement Plan (OQIP).
Manage the Ops Assurance Portal.
Manage the Ops and Air Safety Suitably Qualified and Experienced Personnel (SQEP) Tracker.
Carry out duties iaw the RAF Shawbury Air Safety Management Plan (ASMP) in particular act as Sec to the Aerodrome Operators Assurance Board and Aerodrome Operators Hazard Log Review Board.
Assist the 1FTS Air Safety Management with the 1PA of the Air Safety Management Systems (ASMS) including Air Safety Management Assessment Tool (MAA) ASMS Maturity Assessment (AP8000) & Safety Culture Evaluation Framework (MAA Manual of Air Safety).
Review for accuracy the assurance elements of the RAF Shawbury and 1FTS ASMP as directed by the ASM.
Assist the Air System Safety Case (ASSC) Mgr with compliance activity to support the Juno and Jupiter ASSCs and share assured evidence from 1PA activity for inclusion on the ASSCs.
