Group Facilitator
Job Summary
GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
The incumbent is responsible for providing group psychotherapy on inpatient units residential and/or partial hospital programs along with providing individual therapy which focuses on the application and acquisition of skills addressed in groups. Provided groups will fit within the following frameworks: 1) educational 2) social interaction 3) community-making. They will work with the specific units Inpatient Group Coordinator to facilitate group experiences and support the needs of the identified client population. Additionally they are encouraged to participate in other hospital activities including as time allows committees teaching trainings and research.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides group and/or individual therapy to clients as assigned. Interventions should be structured appropriately to the specific clientele being served. Therapist will be responsible for both set-up before and clean-up after the group occurs.
The therapist provides a non-judgmental environment in which clients can process and verbalize personal insight and awareness of their issues.
When appropriate provide consultation to clinical teams based on specific areas of expertise/training.
Documents inpatient hospital group forms within established time parameters and in accordance with hospital procedures.
Follows all established group therapy protocols.
Reviews and contributes to specified programs Group Resources Manual which details group descriptions goals methods and resources.
Maintains contact with other clinical staff and unit leadership through participation in rounds staff meetings multi-disciplinary meetings treatment planning meetings and other meetings as necessary.
Consults with program staff in development of skills training groups.
Alerts appropriate staff (e.g. Nurse Director Medical and/or Clinical Director Treatment Teams) of emergent clinical issues that occur during group sessions.
Participates in group therapy training opportunities when required.
Reports to Inpatient Group Therapy Coordinator for supervision and Nurse Director (or other identified program lead) for performance evaluations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Masters degree (MA) or higher from a recognized clinical/counseling or related behavioral health training program including: Expressive Therapy Counseling Psychology Social Work Nursing Occupational Therapy Educational Psychology Psychology Psychiatry.
Previous group and individual therapy experience preferred.
SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
- Successful candidate must possess basic computer skills to use a variety of electronic systems (including Microsoft Office) to access/maintain personal employment-related data satisfy required annual trainings use job-specific applications and complete documentation using the electronic medical record (experience with the Epic platform preferred).
- Candidates should be organized timely and possess good interpersonal skills to communicate effectively within a multi-disciplined team.
- Ability to set and maintain appropriate boundaries.
- Experience with empirically supported/validated group therapy skills (i.e. CBT ACT MI DBT) is preferred.
