Position Overview
A behavioral health facility is seeking experienced Mental Health Therapy Aides to support a Children and Adolescent Psychiatric Unit. This role involves providing both direct and indirect patient care in an acute inpatient behavioral health setting. Pediatric experience is preferred and prior psychiatric experience is required.
The MHT will work closely with nursing and clinical staff to maintain a safe therapeutic environment and support patients through daily activities treatment participation and crisis situations.
Key Responsibilities
Provide direct and indirect patient care under nursing supervision
Take and accurately record vital signs
Assist with patient admissions and required documentation
Support physical examinations and specimen collection
Monitor and document patient intake and output
Transport patients as needed
Orient new patients to unit routines expectations and regulations
Assist patients with hygiene and activities of daily living (ADLs)
Develop therapeutic relationships and interact with patients during structured activities
Observe document and report patient responses to treatment
Intervene during behavioral or emotional crisis situations
Maintain a safe and structured environment including completing safety checks
Apply age-appropriate and developmentally appropriate clinical and psychological interventions
Communicate patient status and concerns to nursing staff in a timely manner
Participate in unit-based activities and support nursing unit operations
Utilize electronic medical record (EMR) systems for documentation
Qualifications
CPR Certification: Required
Experience:
Minimum 1 year required
2 years preferred
Psychiatric inpatient experience: Required
Pediatric behavioral health experience: Preferred
Prior inpatient hospital experience preferred
Skills & Competencies
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to work effectively with patients families and multidisciplinary teams
Capable of performing patient care tasks with minimal supervision
Demonstrates professionalism empathy and sound judgment in high-stress situations
Experience using Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems
