Description

The GC Analyst runs and reports environmental samples to meet production and quality goals. The analyst is responsible for planning daily workflow monitoring quality of procedures and proper technique and communicating issues and needs to the Team lead.

The GC Analyst will perform tasks according to Sterling Labs SOPs and protocols in a safe manner following honest and ethical behavior in all laboratory activities. The 8011-ALC-GYL/GC Analysts will perform specific duties assigned by the Organic Team Lead to ensure that client service requests are met. The GC Analyst must display motivation to see projects through to completion to meet client expectations.

Requirements

PRIMARY DUTIES

GC Analysis: 8011/Alcohols/Glycols

This includes the responsibilities below:

  • Prep and analyze 8011/Alcohols/Glycols samples including the dilution/extraction process.

SECONDARY DUTIES

GC Analysis: ER PCB

On call rotating shift for Emergency Response PCBs (1 week at a time 24 hours on call) with additional compensation.

Prep and analyze PCB waste samples with a simple dilution and preparation/extraction.

TASKS

  • Manage sample workload to meet reporting deadlines.
  • Upload and review results in Sterling Labs LIMS
  • Quantify and qualify results based on the analytical method and SOP.
  • Report accurate and on-time data in ELEMENT 7
  • Calibrate instrumentation accurately according to SOPs.
  • Build sequence and batch data to maximize instrument run efficiency.
  • Perform daily and ongoing maintenance on instruments including inlet maintenance changing columns source cleaning etc.
  • Prepare standards and reagents.
  • Make critical decisions about the quality of samples prior to analysis to protect instruments and meet client objectives.
  • Assist other analysts and extractors in other lab areas as workflow requires under direction of your supervisor.
  • Maintain good housekeeping habits and assist with sample disposal.
  • Communicate to the Team lead the status of the workload as well as any data quality issues.
  • Assist supervisor in determining sources of problems and implementing corrective actions to resolve those issues.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

  • BS/BA degree in chemistry or related field
  • Working knowledge of MS Office: Word Excel and Access.
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills.
  • Self-directed goal oriented.
  • 1-2 years of experience as a GC/HPLC analyst is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Element 7 is preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION

  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds using correct and safe lifting techniques
  • Must be able to work in refrigerated storage areas for short periods of time
  • Must be able to wear all PPE required for the position
