Job Summary

Summary

This position serves as the Supervisory Supply Technician - Medical for the Medical Supply Distribution (MSD) areas of Logistics Service within the VA Health Care System. As a Supervisory Supply Technician you will ensure that supplies and material are distributed to all areas serviced by Logistics by directing supervising and managing the primary inventory point that receives stores and issues supplies and materials for both clinical and administrative service areas of the medical center.


Duties

Major duties and responsibilities include:

  • Plans work to be accomplished by subordinates; sets and adjusts short term priorities and prepares schedules for completion of work based on priorities.
  • Advises counsels and instructs employees on work and administrative manners such as complaints grievances etc.
  • Finds and implements ways to eliminate or reduce significant bottlenecks and barriers to production.
  • Provides guidance and evaluates work involving new complex or unusual situations and those without clear precedence.
  • Oversees management and distribution of all supplies and material in the medical center through subordinates who maintain stock monitor expiration dates and rotating stock ensure critical supplies are monitored perform daily inventory resolve differences in records distribute items deliver supplies in a timely manner and complete specialty cart preparation.
  • Oversees the receipt of supplies and material into the medical center.
  • Ensures supplies are unpacked and properly stored in inventory areas.
  • Analyzes and resolves difficult issues and problems in order to plan effectively and render equitable and reliable decisions.
  • Conducts market research on all new products and ensures they are recorded in the automated inventory system.
  • Ensures availability of recurring supply items which are managed and distributed through the computerized inventory management system.
  • Analyzes management reports in order to manage and control the fund control point limitations and identify trends correct errors and resolve problems.
  • Works with members of the vendor and/or contract community managers supervisors and other staff throughout the medical center on Logistics issues.
  • Communicates with subordinate staff and other administrative and clinical staff to coordinate and persuade logistics activities on the implementation of policy or procedural changes.

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm

    Qualifications

    IN ORDER TO QUALIFY FOR THIS POSITION AT THE GS-7 LEVEL YOU MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING:

    DRIVERS LICENSE REQUIREMENT: You must possess a current valid state-issued drivers license for this position. (Please do not submit a copy of your license with your application package. You will be required to show your valid drivers license at the time of your interview.)

    AND

    SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-6 level in the Federal service that equipped you with the particular knowledge skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position and that is typically in or related to the work of this Supervisory Supply Technician-Medical position. Specialized experience includes: planning and coordinating work to be accomplished by other staff; establishing priorities for a department; overseeing the receipt and distribution of supplies and materials for a complex medical center; maintaining stock at inventory locations; monitors expiration dates; ensure supplies are delivered timely; training new employees and answering questions on local processes and procedures; ensuring proper storage of supplies and materials; resolving problems and providing guidance to others on logistics activities; and making recommendations on improvement of work production and quality of work.     IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

    Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. Peace Corps AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g. professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies knowledge and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience including volunteer experience.

    Physical Requirements:

    Work is normally accomplished within a supply office and supply distribution points with the majority of time utilizing the automated inventory system for inventory management processing orders distributing supplies conducting physical inventories in the warehouse and various supply points. Responsible for the storage and distribution of supplies to both primary and secondary inventory points as well as within the bulk supply areas. This may include movement of stock to assist in counting storing rotating and retrieving items from shelves and cabinets. Physical exertions and demands include standing walking bending stretching reaching and pushing/pulling supply carts and lifting supplies up to 50 pounds are required.

    Works primarily in a supply office and supply distribution points that support the Storage and Distribution of supplies. Multiple interruptions are experience throughout the day resulting from telephone and personal contacts with individuals requiring information guidance or problem solving. Protective and special clothing is worn to prevent exposure to dangerous materials; hair covers shoe covers and gloves are worn as required when delivering supplies into clean/sterile areas and managing verification of inventory stock levels within the primaries. Physical dispersion of the facility may make it necessary to make deliveries over uneven terrain and/or in adverse weather conditions.
