Wills Trusts & Estates Paralegal

Location: Surrey BC
Employment Type: Full-time
Level: Intermediate to Senior
Salary Range: $70000 $85000 benefits

Our client a well-established and highly respected British Columbia law firm is seeking an Intermediate to Senior Wills Trusts & Estates Paralegal to join their Surrey office. This role is ideal for an experienced paralegal who is comfortable independently managing files and working directly with clients on complex and sensitive estate matters.

The Role

This position provides substantive paralegal support across estate planning and estate administration files with some exposure to related corporate matters. The successful candidate will be confident running files from start to finish and supporting lawyers with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities

Wills Trusts & Estate Planning

  • Drafting and preparing Wills Powers of Attorney Representation Agreements and family trusts
  • Preparing documentation for alter ego joint spousal disability and Pecore trusts
  • Managing committeeship applications
  • Reviewing client instructions and ensuring accurate implementation in estate planning documents
  • Coordinating execution and witnessing of estate planning documents
  • Maintaining and organizing estate planning files and precedents

Estate Administration

  • Preparing and filing Probate and Administration applications and supporting materials
  • Assisting with estate administration including asset identification and valuation
  • Managing resealing applications where required
  • Liaising with executors beneficiaries financial institutions trust companies accountants realtors funeral homes the Public Guardian and Trustee and court registries
  • Preparing Executors Accounts and managing files through to final distribution

Qualifications & Experience

  • Paralegal diploma or certificate
  • Approximately 79 years of experience in wills estates and corporate law within a law firm or professional services environment
  • Strong working knowledge of estate planning and probate procedures
  • Experience with corporate and real estate matters related to estates is an asset
  • Comfortable working directly with clients on confidential and sensitive matters
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe PDF; experience with legal document management and accounting systems is an asset
  • Ability to work independently manage competing deadlines and run files from start to finish

Compensation

  • Salary range of $70000 $85000 commensurate with experience
