Job Summary

Summary

The incumbent serves as a Supervisory Health Systems Specialist (organizational title is Credentialing and Privileging Manager) and is assigned to the Medical Staff Office which is under the Chief of Staff (COS) at a VAMC. The incumbent oversees all functions related to healthcare providers professional credentials supporting all divisions of the VAMC (i.e. full time part time temporary intermittent contract without compensation (WOC) and fee basis).


Duties

). The Incumbent is responsible for working collaboratively with local and VISN leadership to identify and/or implement best practices and advising VAMC leadership of all program requirements pertaining to the C&P program. They ensure quality assurance and provide oversight for the VAMC C&P program and ensures that the Medical Staff Bylaws/Rules and Regulations are reviewed and updated annually (or as needed) to reflect regulations or accreditation standards.

  • Providing direct technical and administrative supervision to employees.
  • Responsible for ensuring that employees are efficiently and effectively accomplishing quality work that is compliant with regulatory requirements and procedures TJC standards laws and VHA C&P policies and requirements as well as assuring implementation and accomplishment of the goals and objectives of the C&P Program.
  • Identifying and presenting to leadership the resources necessary for accomplishing the mission and function of the facilitys C&P program.
  • Providing guidance to local leadership and C&P employees on all matters pertaining to the facilitys C&P program.
  • Attending committee meetings and presents providers credentials clinical practice histories and red flags.
  • Serving as the primary consultant for the facilitys C&P program; analyzes program audit results; interprets facility quarterly report card data; researches provider credentialing requirements; and identifies potential privileging issues.
  • Coordinating with Service Chiefs and service level administrative teams for annual Committee(s) review of clinical privileges and scope of practice.
  • Serving as the Point of Contact (POC) and SME (Subject Matter Expert) for credentialing updates
  • Human Resources providers and hiring services.
  • Monitoring and auditing the VAMC C&P program utilizing VetPro reports mandatory auditing and reporting tools.
  • Ensuring national level reporting requirements are accurately completed including but not limited to quarterly security reports quarterly accuracy certification of the Our Providers website and accuracy of the VA/DoD shared provider registry.
  • Monitoring C&P program resources to ensure programs are appropriately staffed.
  • Serving as a liaison and partner with Human Resources Service programs for common program goals and issues including but not limited to provider onboarding provider exit reviews and assessments privileging actions and guidance related to clinical performance concerns.
  • Responsible for ensuring quality assurance in the facilitys C&P program; applying organizational and system-wide strategies for continuous quality improvement as they relate to C&P processes and procedures.
  • serves as the administrator for the National Practitioner Data Bank Federation of Medical Boards and Our Providers Database.

    Qualifications

    You may qualify based on your experience as described below:

    Preferred Experience 1 Year of Credentialing Experience.

    Specialized Experience: You must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-11) in the Federal Service that is directly related to the work of the position and has equipped you with the particular knowledge skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties as a Health System Specialist. Qualifying specialized experience is defined as progressively responsible analytical or administrative or clinical management or supervisory experience in the health care field. This work may have been performed in an operating health care facility or a higher organizational echelon with advisory or directional authority over such facilities. Work must have involved a close working relationship with facility managers and analysis and/or coordination of administrative clinical or other service activities and provided knowledge of the following: (1) Missions organizations programs and requirements of health care delivery systems; (2) Regulations and standards of various regulatory and credentialing groups; and (3) Government-wide agency and facility systems and requirements in various administrative areas such as budget personnel and procurement. At this level applicants would have obtained this experience working within a health care setting working directly with clinicians and local leadership to solve problems in support of the delivery of patient care; applying organizational and system-wide strategies for continuous quality improvement; and experience running and supervising an administrative component of a health care credentialing and privileging program.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies knowledge and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience including volunteer experience.

    Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.     Physical Requirements: The work is mostly sedentary. Occasionally light physical effort may be required such as that involved with walking stair climbing and carrying of light office items. The work is performed in an office setting which requires normal safety precautions typical for offices and meeting rooms. The work area is adequately lighted heated and ventilated. The work may require travel.

    Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee.
