The Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor (LPMHC) serves as a member of the Primary Care Mental Health Integration (PCMHI). The PCMHI is a multi-disciplinary team of mental health professionals which provides comprehensive accessible Veteran-centered mental health care. The LPMHC assigned to PCMHI is responsible for coordinating and providing specialty mental health counseling.

The LPMHC conducts assessment interviews develops treatment plan and provides treatment to eligible Veterans. Treatment modalities may include crisis intervention intake evaluations outreach services as well as empirically based treatment for a variety of mental health conditions. The LPMHC may refer clients to other programs and professionals as appropriate. The LPMHC also participates in and provides consultation to other team members; participates in conjoint emergency treatment with medical facility mental health personnel.
The LPMHC:
VA Health Profession Trainees (HPT)s pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
All applicants pending licensure may be appointed at the GS-9 level (must become fully licensed within 3 years to remain in the position).

Receiving Service Credit or Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual based on prior work experience or military service experience. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
