Location: Divisional Headquarters Programs Department (Hartford CT)
Status: Full-time Exempt
Hours Per Week: 40
Schedule:MondayFriday 8:30 am 4:30 pm (schedule may vary based on programneeds)
Scope of Position: Work with the Program Department to implement strengthen and coordinate the music and arts ministry programs within the Division ensuring that these ministries are of the highest standard artistically musically and spiritually. Spend time at the Corps not only during the week but also through scheduled Sunday visits. Become intimately aware of every Corps in the Division with respect to the music ministry programs as well as its current and potential leaders.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a positive and professional representative of The Salvation Army.
- Work hard to promote the establishment of active music ministry programs for youth and adults in every Corps in the Division.
- Develop Christ-centered music ministry programs that align with our mission lead participants to a deeper relationship with Christ and foster community engagement.
- Identify develop and assist leaders for brass voice piano timbrel and guitar programs at the corps level through councils seminars institutes and other available means.
- Develop or identify a music curriculum for brass voice piano timbrel and guitar at the corps level.
- Assist Corps Officers and the Advancement Department in finding resources for music ministry programs including funding instruments program resources leaders and participants.
- Collaborate with the Divisional Music Ministry Committee to schedule and provide leadership for a monthly music and arts rehearsal day ensuring that all groups have opportunities for spiritual development.
- Serve as the leader for the Divisional Band and Chorus and work to see members grow in Christ and the band grow in numbers and musical ability.
- Provide leadership and direction for any special music ministry program event or rally as requested by Divisional Headquarters.
- Organize promote and manage trips for music ministry groups in and outside the Division.
- Develop and maintain an inventory of divisional instruments and obtain copies of corps instrumental inventories.
- Work with the Divisional Youth Secretary to plan and execute the Divisional Music and Arts Camp and Conservatories.
- Promote and conduct the Southern New England Divisional Star Search event.
- Organize the divisional representation at the Territorial Star Search event.
- Conduct the business of the divisional music considering budgetary and other limitations.
- Attend conferences and other events as requested by the supervisor.
- Support Divisional and Territorial events as requested.
- Attend and participate in Star Lake Music Camp as requested.
- Maintain current and accurate records on the Divisional Calendar.
- Gauge results and effectiveness of the music program by the growth of music ministry programs at the corps the advancement in the music ministry groups and the effectiveness of strengthening music ministry programs throughout the
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree and three to five years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must be a uniform-wearing Salvationist who commits to a local corps by being an active soldier and upholding high morals.
- Required to promote and respect the mission of The Salvation Army and have a strong Christian testimony of faith and holiness.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the work environment.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment is required.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills.
- Flexibility and a cooperative spirit are crucial.
- Grant writing monitoring and reporting experience preferred.
- Highly organized with the ability to meet deadlines.
- Must be able to lead worship in a meaningful way.
- Must be able to speak comfortably in public.
- Must complete the KeepSAfe training and other required training upon hire.
- Must have a valid drivers license.
- Must have communication computer and organizational skills.
- Must have the ability to work effectively with people.
- Must maintain a professional appearance.
- Proficiency in piano/keyboard preferred.
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite is required.
- Program fiscal management experience is required.
- Willingness to travel within the Division.
