A Day in the Life
Position Overview
The VicePresident(VP) InternationalRelationswill serve as aseniormember of the companys global Government Affairs team reporting to the VicePresident&HeadGlobalGovernment Affairs.This position willdrive strategicexternalengagementand advocacyon enterprisepolicyprioritieswithgovernmentsand organizationsglobally including around trade policy. The VP InternationalRelationswillalsopartner with colleagues in key markets with an emphasisinChina and parts ofAsia todevelopand drivepolicy development andrelatedadvocacy toassistMedtronic in achieving its strategicobjectives.The VPInternationalRelationswill be anexceptionalglobalstrategist andplay an integral role in helping Medtronic continue to build a best-in-class global government affairs organization.
Location of Position
This position is based in Washington DCand will requireup to approximately25%travel.
Key Responsibilities
Leadstrategic engagementwith keygovernment officials andstakeholdersacross diverse global political and economic systemsincludingthe Washington diplomatic community and U.S. diplomatic missions outside the United Statesto advance the companys enterprise priorities.
Develop andimplementengagement and advocacy strategies with the U.S. Congress and U.S. Executive Branchrelated tokeyglobalpolicyissuesincluding tradein collaboration with the U.S. Government Affairs organization.
Supportengagement andadvocacyinpriorityglobalmarkets including China and parts of Asiaworkingwith colleaguesacross the businessesregions andfunctions includingLegal;Health EconomicsPolicyand Reimbursement;Regulatory;Trade Operations;Supply Chain;and Communications.
Engage and represent the company with trade associationson global policy issues toensurecoordinated high-impact advocacy that supports business growth andmitigatesrisk.
Represent the companyin high-level policy dialogues bilateral forums and other global platforms.
Anticipate emerging geopolitical economic andpolicyrisks and recommend strategies to capitalize on opportunitiesandmitigate challenges.
Leverageglobalinstitutions and platformsincludinginternational organizations multilateral developmentbanksand other organizations to drive advocacy and engagement strategies.
Advise senior executives on global policy and geopolitical developments affecting the companysglobalportfolio. Provide insight guidance and briefings for senior leadership engagements with government officials globally.
Manage a small team of direct reports.
Other duties as assigned.
Must Have: Minimum Qualifications
Requires abachelorsdegree
A minimum of15yearsofexperience inthe public sectorinternational government affairs trade policy diplomacy or related public policy roles; or a minimum of13years of experienceinthe public sectorinternational government affairs trade policy diplomacy or related public policy roles andan advanced degree
A minimum of13years of peopleprogramor project management experience
Nice to Have
Advanced degreestronglypreferred
Experience working in or with a multinational companyandthe public sectorstronglypreferred
Experience working on global trade policy including trade agreementsandexport controls strongly preferred
Demonstrated ability and proven record of successfully driving high-level advocacy with senior business leaders and global government leaders; experience engaging with governments in China strongly preferred
Experience in life sciences healthcaretechnologyor otherregulated global industries preferred
Established network within Washington D.C. includingthe U.S. CongressU.S.ExecutiveBranch agencies diplomatic missions and trade associations
Deep knowledge of geopolitics international trade and economic policy and regulatory issues
Excellent written and verbal communication skills especiallyregardingpolicy development analysisandadvocacy;must be able toclearly and succinctly convey complex informationto various audiences
Demonstrated ability to manage sensitive issuesandcrisis situationsnavigate complex political environments and deliver results in a global matrixed organization
Collaborative leaderwith a proven record of successfosteringalignment and drivingoutcomes across global teams
Demonstrated ability to work independently and successfully prioritize competing tasks in a fast-paced environment
Impeccable ethics and a high-level of integrity
