Sequoias Community College District is seeking equity-minded candidates to fill two full-time tenure-trackGeneral Counselingpositions in theStudent ServicesDivision beginning August2026. These positions are located on the TulareCampus.
- In addition to general counseling responsibilities this position on the Tulare Campus will provide comprehensive academic career and personal counseling while developing and maintaining a working knowledge of the Agriculture and Applied Technology & Trades pathways located on the Tulare Campus (12 Agriculture and 11 Trades areas with 19 degrees and 44 certificates). The counselor will support students as they navigate early course sequencing stackable certificates licensure options transfer opportunities and employment pathways connected to these programs.
Assignments may include evening classes and teaching at any of the Sequoias Community College District Campuses: Visalia Hanford and/or Tulare. Participation in the governance of the Sequoias Community College District by way of committee assignments is encouraged.
*College of the Sequoias offers lecture-lab pay parity as well as overload and large lecture compensation that may be additional.

Job Duties
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Conduct educational vocational career and personal counseling appointments as well as student orientation for a diverse community college population.
- Collaborate with Agriculture and Technology & Trades faculty staff and program leadership on the Tulare Campus.
- Collaborate with other COS programs and services.
- Support students in navigating sequenced coursework stackable certificates licensure requirements and apprenticeship or employment-aligned pathways.
- Participate when appropriate in program discussions and advisory feedback to remain current with changes that may impact counseling and student planning.
- Assist students interested in Agriculture and Trades in exploring program options evaluating job outcomes and understanding the implications of course sequencing.
- Maintain an awareness of local and regional labor-market information relevant to Tulare programs and integrate this knowledge into student counseling conversations.
- Provide follow-up counseling services to students as stipulate by state and college matriculation guidelines
- Use electronic student educational planning and degree audit software to develop/create plans for students.
- Provide appropriate referrals to on/off campus for students.
- Remain current on new legislation and developments relating to programs for students with the California Community College and University systems.
- Participate in appropriate counseling staff meetings and professional development.
- Perform other counseling related duties as specified by the division chair and/or dean of student services in collaboration with site administrators.
Other responsibilities include maintenance of office hours active engagement with campus culture participation in departmental responsibilities and the willingness to create and participate in and sustain an atmosphere of equity which is respectful of diversity District wide.
Note: Summer counseling Evening counseling weekend counseling and/or counseling at off-campus sites may be available.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
The candidate must meet the following criteria.
- Masters in counseling rehabilitation counseling clinical psychology counseling psychology guidance counseling educational counseling social work or career development marriage and family therapy or marriage family and child counseling OR
- The equivalent AND
- Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic social economic cultural disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students
JOB REQUIRED CORE SYSTEM COMPETENCY
The candidate must also demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic socioeconomic cultural disability gender identity sexual orientation and ethnic backgrounds of community college students pursuant to Title 5 53022.

The Counseling Department is looking for evidence of the following:
- Community College Counseling and related experience.
- Familiarity with counseling software and web related resources.
- Experience supporting students enrolled in agriculture applied technology and trades related learning programs.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with faculty and deans to align counseling practices with program requirements.
- Experience counseling students whose pathways require structured sequencing tied to certification licensure or job readiness.
- Familiarity with interpreting labor-market information to support student decision-making.
- Willingness to engage in ongoing learning about Agriculture and Technology & Trades programs housed on the Tulare Campus.
- Knowledge of requirements for transfer career technical and remedial options.
- Ability to participation in a collaborative relationship with students and faculty.
- Ability to make a positive contribution to the counseling program at College of the Sequoias by the development and/or implementation of special counseling programs or materials.
- Excellent interpersonal skills in working with students and staff.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish as COS is a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI).
