POSITION OVERVIEW

The Manager Business Management and Project Controls will report to the Project Director and is responsible for driving commercial performance on large capital projects. This role oversees business operations of the project including but not limited to project controls accounting/finance tax/insurance contract and commercial management risk management and supply chain while working closely with engineering project management and construction site teams to ensure profitable and compliant project delivery.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Business Operations

  • Responsible for managing and coordinating all project specific accounting and finance activities including cash forecasting and accounts payable

  • Management and control/reporting for banking and project specific bank accounts or financial asset reporting

  • Responsible for ensuring all tax strategies and liabilities are managed and controlled for the capital project working closely with the companies tax organization for tax compliance

  • Manage insurance requirements for the project (OCIP BAR and other CGL aspects) as well as requirements for subcontractors and suppliers ensuring appropriate insurance is in place for specific scopes of supply and performance of the work

  • Overall project reporting for all commercial and financial controls and liabilities

  • Establish implement and govern the project controls system(s) in line with contract requirements (with subcontractors and suppliers) and corporate standards

  • Oversee a multi-discipline project controls team (cost engineers schedulers planners estimators and analysts)

  • Ensure alignment between project execution strategy and controls methodologies

EPC Project Controls Leadership

Commercial & Financial Management

  • Oversee project budgets cost controls cash flow and profitability

  • Review and manage project cost (actual and committed) forecasts as well as all project change management with subcontractors and suppliers

  • Lead commercial negotiations with subcontractors and suppliers

  • Ensure timely invoicing disposition/resolution of claims and payment collection

Contract & Risk Management

  • Review negotiate and manage contracts (lump sum cost-plus unit rate etc.)

  • Identify commercial risks and implement mitigation strategies

  • Manage change orders claims extensions of time (EOTs) and dispute resolution

  • Ensure contractual compliance across all contracts and commercial agreements (POs)

Project & Operational Support

  • Work closely with the Project Director Engineering Procurement and Construction groups to align project objectives for successful execution

  • Prepare and implement resource planning subcontracting strategies and procurement decisions

  • Participate in project reviews progress meetings and executive reporting

  • Ensure adherence to company policies project governance and ethical standards

Leadership & Stakeholder Management

  • Lead and mentor the project controls group the commercial/contracts group and the procurement teams

  • Act as a key interface between company operations/organization finance insurance tax legal and executive leadership

  • Represent the company in high-level progress and reporting meetings

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Knowledge:

This role requires deep knowledge of commercial management principles for large scale EPC and capital projects. Strong understanding of construction and engineering contracting models contract administration and claims management processes. This position also requires solid knowledge of accounting insurance taxation risk management and supply chain practices as they apply to complex industrial projects. Familiarity with project execution strategies governance frameworks and commercial interfaces across engineering procurement and construction is critical to success.

Skills:

  • Strong background in commercial management contracts and/or project controls

  • Proven experience with large-scale industrial projects (power plants refineries mining infrastructure etc.)

  • Knowledge of EPC/EPCM (lump sum cost reimbursable unit rate etc.) contracting models and international contracting standards

  • Exceptional written verbal and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Organized and able to manage multiple activities and programs timely and with a high degree of accuracy.

  • Exceptional problem solving planning and analytical skills.

  • Computer literate with typical office packages and basic computer literacy and the ability to learn new software and applications.

QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS)

Education and Certifications: Bachelors degree in Engineering Construction Management Business Finance or related field

Experience:20 years of experience in heavy industrial engineering and construction and project execution

None to possibly one.

FREEDOM TO ACT

The Business Manager is an expert in their field and requires minimal supervision.

WORK CONDITIONS

  • Combination of office locations and project site visits

  • Requires travel (domestic and international) up to 60% of the time to industrial sites and subcontractor/supplier locations

  • While performing the duties of this job the employee is often required to stand walk sit climb stairs work at height above ground on stairs and catwalks balance stoop kneel crouch talk or hear smell type and write.

  • While performing the duties of this job the employee will work indoors and outdoors and exposed to year around weather conditions ocean environment noise and occasionally process gases and vapors.

  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision color vision peripheral vision depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

  • Subject to drug and alcohol testing per applicable federal regulations.
