Position: Cafeteria ManagerSchool Year
10 Month Position (200 days)
Position Purpose: This position oversees all aspects of the student school breakfast and lunch programs and directing of staff assigned to the kitchen while complying with all state/federal/local requirements and guidelines
Essential Functions:
- Participates in the development of general policy making concerning the Regional School Lunch Program.
- Processing of School Lunch applications and other state reporting.
- Establishes work performance standards and plans work schedule for all assigned personnel and evaluates performance.
- Keeps personnel informed of required health laws including chest x-rays and good sanitation practices.
- Cooperates in establishing a financial policy consistent with school lunch regulation that will permit the serving of adequate and satisfying lunches at a minimum cost to the student.
- Assists in developing and administering accurate accounting procedures and records proper control and management of money labor food supplies and other costs.
- Plans menus based on sound principles of nutrition and pupil acceptance.
- Develops standard recipes and portions to be used in the preparation and serving food.
- Develops specifications and standards of quality for the ordering of food supplies and equipment and proper care and storage.
- Responsible for the requisitioning of food supplies and equipment including service and maintenance for the Regional School Lunch Program.
- Ordering and receiving food and supplies.
- Establishes and maintains records necessary for the proper control of equipment and supplies as provided by school lunch regulations.
- Maintains high standards of sanitation and safety in all phases of the school food service program.
- Participates in school and community health and nutrition projects as opportunities arrive.
- Cooperates and coordinates with the custodial staff as they carry out their responsibility for cleaning and maintaining food service and storage areas.
- Cooperates with the administration and the school health personnel in ensuring that qualified needy children are given reduced price and or free lunches and breakfast.
- Cooperates and works closely with the culinary arts instructors.
- Trains new cafeteria personnel.
- Prepares weekly payroll.
- Participates in staff and faculty meetings.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Recommended Minimum Qualification
Education Training and Experience:
High School Graduate or GED; experience in food service and office procedures. Supervisory experience desirable.
Knowledge Ability and Skills:
Knowledge: Demonstrates knowledge of school breakfast and lunch programs. Familiar with menu and food preparation and planning. Knowledge of budgeting and fiscal responsibility.
Ability. Ability to learning and safely and effectively use facilities equipment and materials
Ability to communicate effectively ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all school employees students teachers parents and vendors ability to recognize school-wide priorities and work cooperatively to support their accomplishment ability to prioritize multiple tasks and deal effectively with interruptions occasionally under time pressure.
Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Must demonstrate effective knowledge of and be sensitive to the needs of a diverse student population. Willing and able to perform assigned duties in a manner that is sensitive to different personalities respectful of the role and authority of school leaders sensitive to community dynamics. Serve as a role model and mentor to young students. Supervise manage and motivate hourly employees.

Supervision Scope: Performs routine duties that are clearly defined by the protocol and standard operating procedures. This role requires basic knowledge of departmental operations.
Supervision Received: Works under the direct supervision of the Business Manager.
Supervision Given: Staff assigned to the Cafeteria.
