The University of Nevada Las Vegas invites applications for Assistant Professor-In-Residence College of Engineering R0150463.
The UNLV College of Engineering seeks a dynamic and experienced individual to join the faculty as an Assistant Professor in Residence. The successful candidate will possess a strong background in Mechanical Engineering Mechatronics Manufacturing Engineering Industrial Engineering Entertainment Engineering or a closely related field with particular emphasis on mechanical systems and technologies that support the entertainment and creative industries. The candidate should demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching excellence and meaningful industry experience relevant to areas such as themed entertainment live production attractions stage systems robotics fabrication and interactive installations.
In addition to instructional responsibilities the position includes active engagement in curriculum development program assessment student mentorship and college and university service. The faculty member will play a central role in developing and delivering interdisciplinary application oriented courses in areas such as additive manufacturing mechanical fabrication production systems automation and control mechatronics and sustainable technology practices. These efforts will directly support workforce preparation for the entertainment media and experiential design industries while strengthening UNLVs STEM focused mission.
Applicants must hold a doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent) in Engineering or a closely related field by the time of appointment. Strong communication collaboration and leadership skills are essential. Preference will be given to candidates with prior college level teaching experience and industry engagement in entertainment manufacturing or related applied engineering fields.
At UNLV the Professor in Residence designation refers to a teaching focused faculty appointment with a significant service component and no formal research requirement. The position is promotable through the traditional academic ranks and is non tenure track. It is not a visiting appointment. The anticipated start date is August 1 2026.
The Howard R. Hughes College of Engineering at the University of Nevada Las Vegas is a vibrant and rapidly growing academic community dedicated to preparing the next generation of engineers computer scientists and technology innovators. Located in the heart of Las Vegas the College serves a diverse student population and offers strong academic programs in electrical and computer engineering computer science mechanical engineering and civil and environmental engineering.
With strong industry partnerships active research initiatives and an emphasis on interdisciplinary and applied learning the College equips students with the knowledge and hands on experience needed to address real world challenges in areas such as artificial intelligence robotics cybersecurity big data and sustainable technologies. The College currently enrolls nearly 3700 undergraduate students and 300 graduate students and is supported by a growing faculty of 92 members who advance its mission of excellence in education research and community engagement.
This position will be affiliated with the Department of Applied and Interdisciplinary Engineering a new department established in January 2026. The faculty member will contribute to the Entertainment Engineering and Design program which currently includes four full time faculty members and nearly 180 students and offers two degree programs: Entertainment Engineering and Design and Entertainment Technology and Design.
Applicants must hold a doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent) in Engineering or a closely related field by the time of appointment. The doctoral degree must be from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) must be obtained prior to the start date.
Strong communication and leadership skills are essential and preference will be given to candidates with prior college level teaching experience.
